My financial aid officer said that my grants would pay out on the 9th but I'm not seeing my monies sent to my CARS account, is it just be?

they said CARS quick statement will reflect the new balance after financial aid pays out on aug 11. i’m assuming they’re doing a lot of work right now so it’ll take awhle to show up.

we get paid out on the 11th? does that mean the money will appear in our accounts then?

Even banks tell you to wait one business day before changes appear on your account, so just wait one business day (Monday). Everything will be fine. They’ve probably already been paid, CARS just needs to reflect it.

Just an update for people who are worried: my CARS is not updated with a new quick statement but if you go to fin aid –> award summary it’ll show you how much has been sent to CARS. i don’t know if this process is complete yet since some of my awards hasn’t been processed - calgrants usually take awhile and anyone know if regents scholarship has been processed (i know honorary did, but not the actual financial aid non-$1000 one)? i’m worried b/c i live in the school apartments of which rent is due in 4 days and if i do not pay i will be evicted but i do not have the money to pay since i used up all my savings to pay for the rent this summer…

that’s the thing, so far $0 has been sent to CARS for my grants

so far only my loans have been sent to my CARS and it still says that my cal grant is not accepted which is beginning to worry me a lot.

How do I check if something has been sent to my CARS? It looks like nothing has been sent so far and my Cal grants are the only thing not accepted yet

Is there a formal process in accepting Cal Grants?

not that I am aware of. i was told that financial aid was suppose to accept it automatically.

So far for me, only my pell grant has been sent to my CARS, my cal grant isnt accepted either yet, i think they automatically accept it for u.

Also, does anyone else find it insane that room & board for august is soooooo expensive even though we’re there for 8 days in august… I mean for my triple room in unit 3, they charged me $890… craziness. Does anyone know if we don’t move in until september 1, will they take that money off of the bill?

Oh, they actually charged me 1190 for august (full price)… the 300 dollars less was my refund for the housing deposit. Crazy

doubt it. the rooms are way overpriced and they don’t even let you stay during some breaks.

Hey everyone,

So I have enough money from grants/scholarships in my award summary to pay for August’s $5,600ish bill. However, what will happen if they don’t process my subsidized loans in August? I was told you only had until August 15th to accept them. I’ve accepted my loans. I’ve done the entrance exam twice now (per my financial aid counselor’s recommendation) and it still shows up as being “missing” even though the website says I’ve completed it and it’s been over 72 hours not including the weekend. Should I be worried? Thanks.

^my entrance exam was also missing for about a week so i emailed the financial aid office and they fixed it for me. (they had recieved my exam but they had forgot to put it in.) A word of caution: it takes about a week for them to process their emails and as you know the bill is due on the 15th.

Not sure what the hell is happening and I don’t remember what happened last year either. lol All I know is that the quick statement hasn’t updated I guess with the Amount sent to Cars bit. Crap system. Happened last semester for me too. grr

Ugh this annoying. I know everything will work out, but I can’t help but be paranoid that I will be the one student who gets everything messed up. After my financial aid award is applied, I’ll have like $600 on my CARS bill. I don’t have to pay that until December 15, right? Since my awards cover my housing monthly installments?

If the balance you have under “quick statement: amt due now” or 8/15 is greater than the finaid that you will get, subtract it and pay that amount. you may need to pay more depending on your finaid. if you have outside scholarships, that sometimes does not get processed/sent in until september (some schools start later so they send them out later) and calgrants usually take longer.

So from what I understand… say your financial aid is more than enough to cover the tuition fees. Which, currently in my quick statement under CARS, is at around 9.6k. When they send my financial aid over from the office to my checking account, do they automatically subtract 9.6k from it to cover my expenses? Or do I have to get it, then go through E-bill to pay for the fee myself afterward?

And like the others, I have not yet received any aid whatsoever. I got an email about my Direct Federal Loan today, and it stated that it won’t be given to me til the 16th, which is one day after the fee is due…

Edit: I checked E-bill and about 4.7k is due the 15th, not 9.6k.

if you have financial aid you don’t need to do anything. any scholarships/loans/whatever get credited to your cars and are automatically deducted from the amount owed. money only gets transferred to your checking account via EFT if you have more financial aid than money is owed to school for tuition/room&board/etc.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW: ebill is updated ONCE A MONTH only. it will not reflect any changes due to finaid/etc. the most updated info for how much you owe is under CARS–> Quick Statement and “minimum balance due”

SECOND IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW: bills are due on the 15th of the month but you do not get billed for late fee until 15th of the next month. however, due to fact that this first bill is for tuition/fees, a part of it may be due earlier. i do not know when this date is or how much it is.

btw i am a 3rd year student who has finaid covering almost everything and in the past i have not had difficulty with this - i just wait until everything gets processed and then pay anything else that’s left over (e.g., lab fees are billed mid-semester after all the finaid has been paid to school and then to me so i have to pay for that later on). it’s okay to just wait and see what happens if you are expecting a lot of financial aid. if school bills you for late fees and such, i’m sure they would understand if you explained that you’re expecting a lot of finaid and can’t pay it out of your pocket and are just waiting for it to process, etc.
