Now that it’s April, I’m trying to decide where to go! So I’ve gotten into UC Berkeley for EECS, Cornell as Undecided Engineering (planning to do CS though), and USC as Undecided Engineering. I feel like Cal has the best reputation for EECS, but what do you all think? USC is giving me a half tuition scholarship as well as the Viterbi Fellows honor – USC feels like it would be a much more personal experience than Cal. And, of course, Cornell is an Ivy, but is it too removed from the tech industry in CA?
You have great options! Is cost an issue? If so then USC sounds like your best choice given the scholarship.
Another consideration is to think about what you want to do after you graduate.
Do you see yourself as an employee...working as a software engineer at a Fortune 500 company? Great - get a CS education as inexpensively as you can...zero debt if possible.
Do you want to create the next instagram/facebook/twitter? Then you may want to consider a school where you'll interact with a higher density of like-minded students, entrepreneurial professors, and venture capital firms (e.g. Cal, Cornell, et. al.).
