Cal Grant A

I received a Cal Grant A for another college I got accepted to. Since I’ve decided on going to UCD, I went to the WebGrants page and changed my school of attendance to UC Davis. Two days later, all seems well, and it says my grant of $6,636 is “AUTO-ACCEPTED” at UC Davis.

Until I saw that on UCD’s eFAN site, it says nothing about the Cal Grant A, only B. I looked it up on UC Davis’ site and on this page:

[Financial Aid Grant Funding](http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/types/Grants.html)

It says Cal Grant A is only used for registration fees - what!? So is the $6,636 going to go to waste? I don’t get it. :frowning: (And am I supposed to notify UC Davis that I received the grant?)

Yes, I don't get it either. BUMP THIS UP! Someone helppp!

i tried logging in to that eFAN website last night and i had trouble...

=/

Can anyone help us..?

by registration fees, i hope they mean tuition...

Call the financial aid office tomorrow.
Undergraduate Contacts

Can UCDAdmissions help us? =O

I can only help by providing the number to the Office of Financial Aid - 530.752.2390

They are the experts and can answer these questions.

I keep getting home late, right after the darn F.A. offices close. :( I'm going to try emailing them.

If you find out something, please post. I'll give you lots of cookies :3

Cal Grant A Entitlement awards can be used for tuition and fees at public and private colleges as well as some private career colleges. At CSU and UC schools, this Cal Grant covers up to the full systemwide fees of $2,772 and $6,636, respectively. If you are attending a private college, it pays up to $9,708 toward tuition and fees. To get this Cal Grant, you need to be working toward a two-year or four-year degree.

Cal Grant A Competitive Awards are for students with a minimum 3.0 GPA who are from low-and middle-income families. These awards help pay tuition and fees at qualifying schools with academic programs that are at least two years in length.

I finally got my reply in e-mail, and it's only made me even more confused. Here's the original message I sent them:

Hello,

Does UC Davis accept Cal Grant A's for new undergraduate students? I was awarded a Cal Grant A of $6,636, and the WebGrants page displays an "AUTO-ACCEPTED" message for UC Davis. However, I see no mention of this Cal Grant A on UC Davis' eFAN website. Only the Cal Grant B and C are mentioned.

Thank you

Their reply:

It 's preferable to accept Cal Grant B and an entering freshmen student and you will be offered other aid along with your Cal Grant, then for the next few years, you will receive the Cal Grant B fees and stipend.

I suspect that she misspelled "Cal Grant A" and put B instead somewhere because as I'm reading this I honestly can not see how the reply has anything to do with what I asked! (which was about Cal grant A not B)

You are only allowed to benefit in one Cal Grant program at a given time. If you carefully read the letter that the CSAC sent you, it states this inside the letter under the Code #1 section.

The financial aid officer that was assisting you recommended the Cal Grant B program as you will receive other aid from the school.

I believe if you wish to change from the Cal Grant B to Cal Grant A, you must contact the school and they will do that for you, however, you may lose some benefits that UCD is giving you.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: I think you should carefully read the types of grants out there and decide the grant that will benefit you the most.

I didn't receive a Cal Grant B, though. I was deemed financially ineligible (parent's income is above the income ceiling.) So I guess I'll have to e-mail them to switch me to Grant A. Thanks for the info.
