Cal Grant and Pell grant

I have received my Cal grant information, and I got Cal grant B. As you may know, this grant covers sophomore through senior year tuition and all four years for books and supplies. However, i still need some aid to pay for freshman year tuition. Can I still get awarded a pell grant? I have been accepted and enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona, when will I get pell grant information from them?

What is your EFC? To get a Pell grant your EFC has to be below about 5000.

You should also get awarded some student loans.

Wait…are you an incoming frosh? If so, you should be getting a Cal Grant to cover your frosh tuition.

Cal Grant B covers sophomore through senior years. Freshman year should be covered by a grant directly from Cal Poly Pomona. The purpose of Cal Grant B is NOT to leave you hanging your freshman year . . . tuition should be covered by a grant from your school. If you have any questions, contact the Cal Poly Pomona financial aid office.

And, yes, if you qualified for Cal Grant B, it is likely you will also be eligible for a Pell grant. All of this will be handled by Cal Poly.

I have EFC of 413

So, you’ll get about $5000 in a Pell grant in addition to other aid.

Are you an incoming frosh? If so, have you talked to CPP and ask if you’re going to get a grant to cover the tuition (and I don’t mean the Pell Grant).

Yes I’m an incoming freshman. I didn’t know Cal Poly offers its own grants. Do I have to apply for them also separate from the fafsa?

No, there’s no separate application. You should get a notice from Cal Poly with your aid package for the coming year. But if you haven’t received it yet, and you have questions, ask the Cal Poly FA office!

Both my boys were disqualified and I may not sure why??

Hi, My EFC is 0, I am in the blue+gold for UCSB, and my cal grant report says that i am qualified for cal grant B but not awarded. Could i change from cal grant A (i am awarded for A) to cal grant B? If so, do I contact the FA office of UCSB?
