Cal Grant Competitive

@postsecret

I quote you “I qualify for Blue&Gold so I’m wondering why my full tuition was not covered and why I still have to come up with $13,862?”

From what you posted on what you received in financial aid…since you qualify for the blue and gold program…they gave you more than enough financial aid to cover your tuition and fee.

Tuition…consist of the cost per units and other fees for attending the school…it does not include housing…

Cost of Attendance on the other hand is the TOTAL amount it is estimated to attend the school including EVERYTHING…

So by being in BLUE and GOLD… this qualified you for the minimum aid in grants and scholarships to at least cover your TUITION and FEES…the blue and gold doesnt specifically cover housing and personal expenses…which is what you would have to pay through your student loans or any other money you receive, you actually received more grants than the tuition at UCSC, some people only get their 13K tuition covered under the blue and gold, and have to take out the rest in loans to cover housing and etc.

Additionally, because many people are CC students, so you guys dont really know how the UC system works, Im currently a UC student so Im very familiar with the process…Im a current student a UCD and worked in the financial aid department.

ALSO for those who may be wondering

FINANCIAL AID AWARDS…consist Scholarships, Grants and LOANS, yes a loan is 'AID" though it has to be paid back, but it is considered AID…you should be grateful to only have to be taking small student loans. In order for me to attend college, Im taking out $12,500 in student loans each year…so when ever you think your financial aid suck…just think about the many students who have it much worse than you…

But back to @postsecret, in response to @uchappytrain…your total tuition, under the blue and gold program is being fully covered…

any questions message me or respond

[University of California - Blue + Gold Opportunity Plan](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/paying-for-uc/financial-aid/grants/blue-gold/index.html)

If you view the above link, and look at the sub-header, “What Blue + Gold covers” You will see “Under the plan, your systemwide fees will be fully covered by scholarship or grant money”

[UCSC Registration Fees 2011-12](http://reg.ucsc.edu/fees/fees.html)

and with this above link, you will see that the TUITION and fees (first two items on the list) the cost is about $12,000k…also the fees that are included under the Blue and Gold are fees my the UC system, and not the individual fees by the school itself, i.e recreation, transportation fees. etc etc…

any other expenses such as ROOM and BOARD or PERSONAL EXPENSES are not expected to be covered by the money of the BLUE AND GOLD…

It is however possible that you receive additional Grants and Scholarships that will cover you other expenses…And there is no specific item that you will be awarded that says “Blue and Gold Grant”…its just the combined grants that you are awarded…

Hope this kind of clears it up…

Yes A triple is 3 to a room

Also read my other post I added hear…these might be able to clear things up

@samurai92: Thank you so much for clearing this up for us! I PM’d you with some additional q’s.

You can judge a school for being cheap, most of these grants are to fulfill the amount needed to cover the blue and gold, and each student get different amounts in loans depending on their fafsa.
