We just toured Cal Poly and learned about the Cal Poly GPA. CP takes your UC GPA and refigures it (using a 5.0 scale so weighted classes are included) adding in your freshman grades as well as any community college classes you have taken. The community college semester classes count as a full year class. Only A-G classes count. They gave out a flier listing GPA’s of admitted students and students who accepted admissions broken down by majors. I’m wondering if anyone knows whether those GPA on the flier were the general high school GPA’s of those students or the Cal Poly refigured GPA’s?

Here is the GPA breakdown for those who are interested

Agriculture, food & enviro science
admitted 3.58
enrolled 3.54

arch & enviro design
admitted 3.9
enrolled 3.85

business
admitted 3.91
enrolled 3.79

engineering
admitted 3.81
enrolled 3.71

liberal arts
admitted 3.83
enrolled 3.73

science and mathematics
admitted 3.86
enrolled 3.74

its on their scale.

Could you provide a link to where you found your information? Thanks :)

i took a philosophy course at the local community college, would that be considered under the a-g classes?

oh, and would a community college class be weighted as a general class or as an honors class?

The community class would transfer over to Cal Poly if there's an articulation agreement between the two schools (check assist.org). As for the A-G requirement, I'm not sure. I'd call the admissions/records office for that.

I believe those are the just the weighted high school gpa's. I'm not 100% sure though, I only remember putting my weighted gpa on the college application. I've never heard of the school recalculating it.

Yes they told us at the admissions session how they refigure GPA into a Cal Poly GPA. As for Community College courses, just make sure the course says transferable to CSU on the catalogue page.

I went to their admissions sessions and the guy told me. Why would they list GPA's there that werent calculated to their scale? It's supposed to match up to how you would do on their scale...that is their goal.

^I went to the admissions session too and he never really said whether it was the students high school GPA or the refigured Cal Poly GPA. I guess the only way to find out for sure is to call admissions and ask.

I checked with Cal Poly and the GPA on the flier is the Cal Poly GPA of the admitted students.
