Hi,
I am a high school junior and am interested in civil engineering in Cal Poly Pomona. My stats are
CSU gpa 3.46
SAT math 660
SAT reading 550
I live in CPP service area. The counselor said even though civil engineering is an impacted major, we still have priority, is that true? and how does that work? Does CPP place us first?
I am getting very nervous as my GPA is not strong. What are my chances?
Assuming you complete the a-g courses, you’ve probably got a good shot. I’d re-take the SAT and, be sure to list an alternate major that’s less competitive.
Good luck…
Thanks gumbymom and NCalRent. Yes, I am planning to retake my sat and try to raise my GPA a bit higher.
If I list an alternate major, will they just simply place me in the non impacted major first even though that’s my second choice?
Does anyone know if local service area students still have priority in impacted majors?
SLO states that they do not accept alternate majors, but this year I saw a few posts from accepted applicants that got into their alternate major so, I would say they might accept you into 2nd choice if you do not qualify for your first choice major. All majors are impacted at SLO and they do give local area applicants extra points toward their admissions.
oh, I am not thinking of SLO, I mean Cal Poly Pomona. Do they have the same policy?
@littlealligator: Sorry!!! CPP will consider your alternate major and as an in-service applicant you will get priority even for an impacted major. Good Luck.
