Cal Poly Pomona Commute Vs Apartment

Hey I just wanted some opinions on whether I should dorm in cal poly or rent a room in an apartment 10-20 minutes away. I wouldn’t have to take out a loan if i get an apartment because theyre cheaper and I also heard the school is a commuter school so I dont think Id miss out on dorming experience. Although dorming would make going to classes easier and meet people faster Im not sure it’s worth the loan.

Son in similar situation. Is Pomona safe enough to rent in?

@BrightOasis: There are many other communities around Cal Poly Pomona such as Diamond Bar, Walnut, San Dimas, Claremont, West Covina that would be preferable to Pomona if you plan to rent an apartment. All with 5-15 minutes away by car.

As a Freshman, I would recommend staying the dorms the first year to get yourself acclimated to college and the college experience. Many 2nd years and beyond will then move off campus.
