Man… I completely disagree with this poll. For example UC Berkeley is on the National Top 10 List for the most expensive dorms in the country at over $14,000 a year. Here is the link: [America’s Most Expensive College Dorms - Yahoo! Real Estate](http://realestate.yahoo.com/promo/americas-most-expensive-college-dorms.html)

I don’t see the “Best Value” proposition being applicable to any UC. They also propose to increase tuition dramatically over the next few years. That will make a UC cost as much as a private school for instate students. As far as I am concerned, only the wealthy and the desperately needy with full rides will be able to attend.

The Cal Poly’s and the Cal States are still good values. But, I’ll opt out of the UC’s…

It’s good to see a ranking that somehow accounts for the structural differences between research and non research universities and ranks them fairly as opposed to US News which gives no way to compare, say a UC and a CSU. It’s also good to see that by this measure, many Cal States are actually competitive or ranked higher than research and better funded universities of neighboring states such as the following:

University of Oregon 97
University of Arizona 99
ASU
OSU
WSU
UNLV
UNM
NMSU
U of Utah
U of Idaho

Somewhat irrelevant, but Cal Poly Pomona, in the CCAA division 2, beat out most public universities in he PAC 12!!! How’s that for an upset!

Excellent comment mrsleonore. Indeed all those are flagship research universities in their respective states with Div. I athletics. However, Cal Poly Pomona is completely devoted to academics and its learn-by-doing mission.
