As the title suggests, which is a better school for computer science? I got waitlisted into Cal Poly and just received acceptance yesterday. Cal poly wasnt really on my radar so I dont know mucha about it. As a result, what UC is cal poly Pomona comparable to in terms of computer science? And, is it better that UCSC(that’s where I’m presently enrolled in)?
Hi @C4E. My s is going to ucsc too. I don’t know much about cal poly Pomona other than I think it is decent in engineering not as well regarded as SLO but still pretty good. I know ucsc’s CS program is very well regarded and hard to get into so congratulations there! As For the location, close to Silicon Valley for internships and/ or after graduation job prospcts or if you are thinking about grad school UCSC would be my choice by a good margin. I don’t know the area of Santa Cruz specifically because I’ve never been but I hear it’s beautiful. I grew up in NorCal and live in SoCal now so I know they are quite different as far as vibe. I have also lived in the area surrounding CPP albeit it’s been many years, but I can tell you Pomona gets very hot in the summer and fall and the inland empire area overall is pretty drab. You should visit if you haven’t yet if you are from SoCal. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck with your choice!
There’s no harm in touring CPP if you are truly curious.
I’d be inclined to stick with UCSC. I think it is a better program and campus environment and, more importantly. you were probably more psyched to go there. I also have a philosophical problem with wait lists and, since it is mid-may, you might find housing scarce at CPP.
