Cal Poly Pomona

It is March 9 and I still have a ready for decision on my Cal Poly Pomona App. What does this mean and what are my chances of getting in at this point? I didnt buckle down in high school, but I did earn a 3.6 gpa and 1170 on my SAT.

Anyone know when they will send notifications? I read online somewhere it could be May. I have to accept other offers by May 1st.

Call in, (909) 869-5299.

As a current student at Cal Poly Pomona, SOC major, I throw this advise. Sit back for your admissions letter, unfortunately I cannot remember when I got my conditional letter but I remember creating this account because it took so long. I transferred in from a Jr college, with a AA-T in sociology & AA in liberal Arts-Social & Behavioral Science, with a GPA of 3.6. Nevertheless, you should get a response before any deadlines to accept, both at Cal Poly and other Cal State school. Cal Poly is particularly slow from my research.

Note to self, I have heard from two classmates, different majors, that they were denied admission, however, they appealed the decision and eventually got in. I extend this note because I believe it has some merit, this initiative I feel is highly respected for I believe every student needs it to get through a lot of the run around and bs that one will go through in their academics(advisors, financial aid office, admissions office, deans office, etc).

Best of luck,

Found my old post, I got my response from Cal Poly Pomona on 3/22.

I went to Poly View on March 4 (3/4/17) for a college visit and spoke with the admissions table. They said all acceptances/rejections/waitlists will come out before April 1 (according to plan)

It is April 1st. I have heard nothing but Ready for Decision. I called and they said they didnt know when I would be told. Ugh

When I called Cal Poly Pomona they said it may be as late as the end of May before I hear about acceptance. Anyone had this experience. The deadlines to accept all other offers are May1st. Quite a pickle…

I called this morning to inquire as well. I was told that they are working diligently to get all notifications out by mid-April. And, I asked if all Animal Science acceptances were issued and was told they are working through them still.

The good news is that there is still hope for those of us waiting. The bad news is that we may have to accept another offer in the mean time…just in case.

I wonder if any denials have been issued? I don’t recall seeing anyone posting…

It is difficult waiting. My son is extremely stressed.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

I am also on the ready for desicison but I am worried if they take so much time other university that I got into commitment deadline might be over. I am so worried

Hi, what major did you apply for? Called in two days ago since I’m at four months of “ready for decision” as well! What they said was kind of hopeful, the lady said it’s all based on the major. She said my major, sociology, just became an impacted major and that’s why it’s taking so long. She also said they’re trying their best to send out all admission letter by early April so I say give it a week or so! Have hope

Also, my counselor from last semester said that when you apply to (say for example), four cal states and you get rejected from 3 cal states–you’ll get into the 4th university for sure? Does anyone know if this is true?? Because I know some people can get rejected from every where but my counselor said all 4 colleges would make sure I would get into at least one…

@sjnict: No such guarantee that if you are rejected by 3 Cal states, you will get into one. You get priority at your local in-service area Cal state however and usually require a low EI to get an acceptance. The exceptions are impacted majors where there is a higher standard even for local applicants.

For the UC’s, if you are in the top 9% of your HS or in state, then you guaranteed a spot (if available) at UC Merced if you are not admitted to your choice UC.

@sjnict: Some Cal states may forward to application to a non-impacted campus that has room such as Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills but again no guarantee you will be accepted.

Why is Pomona taking so long for Computer Science? I’m beyond annoyed -_-

thanks for all the info! much better than a counselor’s answer haha

It appears for CS major, only students with high stats (GPA 4.0+/30 ACT) had been admitted so far. So, probably other CS applicants need to wait until after Spring Break or even May 1. This will be when high stats students finally decide on their choice after (re)visiting the schools who have accepted them and take action to decline CPP offer.

It is crazy competitive for CS so many students need to cast a wider net. CPP with a solid progrm has been included in many lists (as reach/match/safety school). So, there is still hope if CPP is your top choice! The downside will be you may lose your deposit to another school if you hear only after May 1

My friends and I are also waiting to hear from Pomona. I applied as a civil engineer major, my friend applied as a computer engineer major, and my other friend applied as a computer science major. We are all extremely anxious to find out! A lot of my friends who are attending pomona right now heard from the school late April! One of them is a computer science major and the other is some sort of engineer major I don’t quite remember, but there is still hope!!

Also! There has been some acceptances these past few days a friend got in as a chemical engineer major and another friend got in as a pre business!!

I was put on the wait list for Bio. I was told they were highly impacted this year. My siblings got acceptances with lower gpa and SAT scores–so bummed. Just got the news today.

I haven’t received anything yet ? Did you get an email or did you look on your portal ? I am a bio major as well
