Giants: Does your dad work as a programmer or engineer?

Judging by the fact that you don't know what an "architect" is, in CompSci, I'm guessing he's an engineer or he would have told you about an "architect." That being said, UC Berkeley, LA and SD produce the best CompSci graduates with better faculty and more qualified students. If you want to do CompSci, you should try to go to one of those three schools; they beat UCI and CalPoly anyday.

My dad works as an actual architect. I thought the flow of the conversation had gone in that direction. If there is a position involved in comp sci that is also named "architect", my apologies.

Giants8307: That would explain why your dad's company favors CalPoly grads over UC grads because clearly CalPoly is the best university (arguably) for Architecture.

The top schools don't produce all of the best professionals in every field, but they certainly produce a disproportionate number. In particular, The top engineering schools prroduce a hugely disproportionate number of engineers who invent/lead/excel.

It means you are admitted. All freshman are admitted conditionally. The conditions include your actually accepting the admission and submitting any required documents for doing so by the May 1 deadline, and completing high school and sending in a final transcript.
