@eyemgh you mention leadership y/n on both of your MCA score explanations. Where is that on the CP application? I don’t remember seeing checking that I have leadership when I applied?
At the end of the application, under the Activities Supplemental are these statements/questions:
Average number of hours worked per week over the most recent 12 months (drop down menu w/hours)
Was more than 25% of your work related to your Cal Poly major of choice (yes or no)
Hours per week in clubs/activities (drop down menu w/hours)
Did you hold any leadership positions (yes or no)
@usamom Ah I see, thank you, I just don’t remember anything from that long ago… My brain is totally fried from being a first semester senior!
@swimkarenna Where are you getting your information that the English and math sections of the SAT or ACT are weighted differently depending on your major? The document that you link to specifically states:
“It should be noted that equal weights have been placed on both Math and Verbal sections of the SAT.”
All first time freshmen are evaluated by the same MCA and Critical Reading/English and Math are weighted equally. Transfer MCAs are specific to each major based on the amount of desired coursework completed for that major.
@ocgolfdad I thought I read somewhere in that document that math wasn’t weighted as heavily, so I just assumed that english was more important (at least for a Business major), but thanks for clarifying!
can anyone confirm that bonus points do not count for early decision???
@NJDevilsFan2012: See post 121. @eyemgh already did.
Last year’s ED thread said that if you are rolled over to RD the only difference you will notice in your portal will be the removal of the early decision wording. Can anyone confirm that?
Does anyone have the dates and times that the first early decisions have come out in the past few years? Thanks!
Last year it was on the 10th.
@usamom thanks for your information on ED. I think the question is how many spots in a particular major are filled during ED. I have only seen the macro level data on # of students overall accepted and enrolled ED published. Last year there were many highly qualified applicants not admitted RD into competitive majors — many were wondering how many slots were still available in these majors after ED acceptances.
@Dadfan, from the LA Times:
“For fall 2015, the school received about 4,000 early applications and accepted about 28% of them.”
It doesn’t break it down by major though. Assume yield to be 100%. That leaves roughly 3800 slots for RD across all majors.
My strong suspicion though is that the “hotter” majors get more ED applications. Maybe someone else can shed more light.
@ocgolfdad do you know anything about the years prior
Also do you know the time is comes out? I think I read 11:30am somewhere
@BoyMomCP: You are correct that if you are deferred to RD from ED, the early decision portion of the message is eliminated and it just says "Thank you for applying…
With an mca score of 4,350, a 3.87 cp gpa, and a 1360 SAT, I am pretty unconfident about getting in for busniness. However, business was a close contender with communications when applying. For RD, can I change my major to communications?
@eca1998 yes you can change your major for RD.
@tdee11 Not sure about time or prior years. I would recommend going back through the ED threads for 2014 and 2013 and checking the dates and times that people started reporting their acceptances.
Last Year they were released on the 10th, and the year before was the 5th. Both around 11:00-11:30 am
@ocgolfdad, @Dadfan, @eyemgh - per CP, “there were 4,324 early-decision applications for fall 2014, of which 1,406 students were selected (32.5%) and 1,194 (84.9%) enrolled” - so it’s not actually a 100% yield for Early Decision. I guess 15% of those admitted ED either changed their mind and did not accept their admission by the January deadline, or if they did accept admission by the January deadline it could have been rescinded for a variety of reasons (not meeting the terms and conditions such as senior year grades or inaccurate info reported on their application, etc.)
