Would it be correct to assume that the necessary grades and scores are significantly lower than the published averages for accepted students given the way SLO uses a algorithmic format? Forgetting about the scores and strength of schedule, if the average gpa was 4.0 for example, the cutoff for that particular major was likely around 3.8 or so. Right? if my thinking is correct, if you have a gpa & test score that is at or near the average for a particular major, your odds are very good.

@1bman23 But considering colleges tend to want to admit more qualified applicants every year to even slightly change their admittance averages, and also considering that it depends largely on the average of the pool of the upcoming applicants its hard to really say. I guess if you are around the average you could say you had a pretty good shot if you were to have applied last year. I think if you’d have a really good shot if you’re at the average if not above the average for last years applicants to be safe, but also keeping in mind class rigor and ECs as well because you might be at their average but lacking in the course rigor to really be competitive against your major’s pool.

Really nervous, about to apply and I’d love to go to Cal Poly, but I’m afraid I’m not going to get in due to my low GPA… The CSU mentor GPA calculator is brutal

For those that have already applied, I know that they send you a receipt saying something like “Cal Poly has received your application…You will receive an email with instructions on accessing our university portal, MyCalPoly…”
Has anyone received that email with those instructions? If yes or no, does anyone know how long after you apply that email comes? I applied on 10/13. I’m not worried. I am just curious, anxious, and hoping that I am not missing anything. Thank you!

@blackbirdchain I never received the email, but I went ahead and made an account anyways because it had been about 2 weeks and I found out they don’t give you any new information in order for you to make the account – all you need is your confirmation number!
