Does Cal Poly SLO lean conservative, liberal, or somewhere in between? Do politics play a large role on campus?
@capybara13 - the Mustang News had an article on the political climate at Cal Poly SLO last June (2016). You might find it interesting. http://mustangnews.net/cal-poly-voting/
That article says 24% R, 43% D, so that leaves 33% for other parties, no party, or not interested at all politically.
For the op’s analytic on CP - lets call the 33 % independents. It comes down to which way you think independents in CA are leaning?
This is another interesting link (from I think 2012) http://www.polypolitics.com/
I see you are coming from the east coast, not sure on your affiliation, but think you would find a good group of like minded people either way. Cal Poly, has a fair number of repubs and lots of dems. if you are looking at those things as a metric.
Re: http://www.polypolitics.com/
Looks like its latest data is from 2014, and looked at party affiliation of mostly faculty and administration (based on voter registration).
It’s not super liberal like say, Reed or Evergreen, nor is it conservative like Texas A&M or Davidson. My son attends from OOS and is liberal. His roommate, also OOS is conservative. They get along great. He’s never mentioned politics being overt one way or another. Suffice it to say, no matter which way you lean, you’ll fit in.
