so I’m trying to decide between cal poly slo and northeastern
at northeastern, my major would be: Computer Science and Business (combined major), and I got in as a nuin applicant
at slo, I'm a Cali resident so it would cost a lot less, but I got into their Business School, so I'm concerned how possible it would be for me to be able to take cs courses and how easy it would be for be to add a cs minor
How important is CS to you? The difference in the amount of CS between a minor and combined major is quite significant. If you aren’t / can’t get CS at Cal Poly, how big of a deal is that? What do you plan to do after undergrad?
On the financial side, how much is the cost difference exactly and how much can you/your family pay? Will any of paying for college include loans for either school?
If you do NUin, where are you thinking to do your first semester?
How much is the cost difference?
Will you be doing a 5-year co-op program?
If so, how will that 5th year factor into your overall indebtedness?
Do you have a particular favorite? City vs. rural?
In the Cal Poly Orfalea College of Business , you can major in Entrepreneurship and minor in Industrial Technologies, which will give you many the opportunities to take the tech classes you need.
It’s not impossible to transfer to CS. Their criteria is a minimum GPA, plus they require for you to demonstrate eligibility for the CS program as a Freshman.
Both are great choices, but consider the total cost of attendance at each and how much debt you may be taking on.
Any amount of debt will have an impact on your life choice upon graduation.
My son two years ago had the same choice (as a business major). we visited SLO and he just did not like the campus, and the NUin program was something that really interested him. He went to NEU and has had a fantastic time (China for the NUin). He had several friends who went to SLO and they have also had a fantastic time.Congrats on having two great choices! I’m sure whichever one you choose will be the right decision. On behalf of your parents, I will say “Choose SLO it’s a LOT cheaper!!”
From SLO’s website:
-All CSC courses are impacted. Registration preference each quarter may be given to CSC, CPE, and SE major students (thus, completing the minor may be difficult).
-Some CSC courses are crosslisted with CPE.
-Completion of the minor required courses does not guarantee admission into the minor.
