I got into Cal Poly and UCSB, but I don’t know what to do. I didn’t know what major to pick when I applied so I chose mathematics, but I want to change it to Accounting or something in Business, Finances, or Accounting. Which school is better and which would be easier to change majors?

I would say UCSB.

At CP, if you aren’t decided on what you want to do in life, it is TOUGH to change majors from college to college.

As it stands, IIRC, math majors would be in the College of Science and Math (haha), while Accounting would fall under College of Business. If you end up not being happy with your major at CP, it won’t be easy in your case.

I’m not sure of the requirements though to get into Accounting. But I can guarantee you that in your case, changing from College to College is just so hard that you’re better off going to UCSB.

If you are unsure about your major, UCSB would probably be the way to go since it is quite a bit more difficult to change majors at CP, though not impossible. The College of Business at CP, however, could accommodate all those majors.

UCSB does not have a distinct business major, you have to go in undeclared and take a bunch of prerequisites before you can even start on your major. Just food for thought.

Thanks for the replies. I’m also not a big fan of partying and drinking. I know that UCSB is known as a big party school and at first, I wanted to go to Cal Poly SLO, but now I’m not sure since I heard it was harder to change majors at Cal Poly.

It isn’t like SLO doesn’t party either.

Trust me, if you feel as if you’re unsure about your major or you know you want to change, do not go to Cal Poly. Because on the off chance that you simply don’t like your major, you will be in a world of trouble.

(I go to SLO BTW).
