Cal Rental Approval before acceptance...mean anything?

You do seem to forget that sarcasm on the internet = fail.

You're misunderstanding completely, RCHANG. It's not about finding out if we are definitely in, but instead to analyze who gets the second email in relation to the competitiveness of their applications in order to deduce, within reason, who may or may not have been indirectly accepted through a glitch in the housing system –something which has happened in the past.

All it amounts to is fun, really.

EDIT: LOL, would you stop retroactively editing your posts in attempt to strengthen your arguments, RCHANG?

"1) We wasted a lot of time on, as RCHANG graciously said, a car rental service."

LAWL!

yeah, we need to start a new thread where RCHANG can vent his frustration on Car Rental services and leave us alone, for serial.

I believe RCHANG is the most stressed out guy in this board. Don't worry, RCHANG, if you get rejected by Cal, you can personally pay the car rentals a visit and smash their windshield with the hammer of flash hope.

if i get rejected ill probably do that too. however i will be needing a patsy to take the fall. any volunteers?

I love how we've gone off a tangent on renting cars...I created this thread to see if anyone else could validate my theory. Seriously, there's no need in reading a thread that you have no interest in and using you internet sarcasm trying to shatter this thread. However, with your participation, you made this thread grow and more people will read it. Thank you for that.

RCHANG.......can I have a Macbook?

To all you hopefuls, the housing theory did indeed work for several students last year, myself included. They made some changes to the system since then apparently to fix the bug, but it seems that some of you may be on to a new housing theory much like ours. The problem this year is that you have to have the CalNet ID, last year they allowed you to log on w/ your application ID and then they would give you your 8 digit CalNet ID; this year it does not look like they are letting you obtain your CalNet ID w/ just the application ID.

In any case, you guys seem to be on to something...good luck. If you have any questions about last year's housing theory, ask away, it was fun while it lasted.

luvtoolearn: so i assume all those who could see the housing application and calnet ID # got in last year?

yes, but there was some confusion at first because the people who took summer classes were able to see their application at first and then later in April some of them (summer students) were not able to see it anymore, thats when we really got excited becuase we knew something had changed.

At first I couldn't see it but then about a week before the decisions were released I was able to log on and see it. There was also a confusion on the first digits of the ID for students who had originally applied out of HS, got rejected and were now applying as a transfer student, they had CalNet ID's starting w/ a 18, the rest of us were 19. so to clear things up we set up a system where all of us reported on a forum what our ID started w/, if we took summer classes, if we originally applied out of HS, and most importantly could we see the application.

Some were really skeptical because quite a few of us could see the application and we thought there was no way that many were accepted, but when the official results came out, we found out that all of us who could see the application right before the decisions were accepted and those who could not were rejected.

joehanus... here is the link from last year if you want to look out of curiosity

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/328080-cal-housing-can-you-see-application-list.html

lol lol lol, this thread made me laugh so many times, honestly. I love when people speculate about their possible acceptance :)
Anyways, I applied to Haas and I'm sooo eager to know the results already!!! So of course after reading your thread yesterday I had to send an application for Cal rentals....sometimes in the evening Eastern time (cuz I'm from PA).
I haven't received any email yet but still hoping for email #1 and of course #2. I'm not too worried if it means an acceptance. It will just make me feel better for next couple weeks before I know the truth. If I get rejected, I'll move on. I know my chances are slim cuz I'm out of state student. However, I'm still hopefull!!!

Anyways, I'm glad to be part of your team. I'm sure we will figure it out!! Good luck to everyone

You guys are a bunch of girls sitting in a circle playing Clue. If I were Berkeley I wouldn't want half of you mindless zombies attending my school. Go outside get some sun rays and when the email comes or not then it does. Stop attributing theories to meaningless things like Car Rentals...... Thats probably because there are so many bums in Berkeley and they ran out Dorms, they are offering cars to live in.

again with the car rentals? really? It is CAL rentals. Also if you are over the age of five calling us a bunch of girls as an insult is just ridiculous....back to the thread I received the first email :)

mathtransfer, i just received the first one as well. have you received the second one yet as well?

If only people could read -

Anyways, another update folks.
It looks as if my "dummy" account did not go through - got an e-mail from CAL Rentals saying that I was ineligible unless I provided evidence of my affiliation with UCB or my summer traveling plans.

I got the same e-mail, but it's not a dummy account...

oh dear... is worried

I just got the same email, but this is just the first 'automated' email that even the op got initially. The 2nd one, where he got approved, is where the dummy accounts will really be tested

but i can't verify as i do not have a CalNet ID.

"We have checked our faxes and emails for verification from you as to how you are eligible for the services and do not see anything from you. Please reply with an email scan or fax us (510-642-4026) your letter of admission or other documentation that shows how you are affiliated with UC Berkeley. Once we know that you are eligible, we will email you a secure link to pay for the services ($20 by Visa, Mastercard or Discover) so you may begin browsing the listings. (If you have sent the information already, please send it again as we have no record of receiving it.)"

The op didn't verify either, re-read the first post for more info...unless I'm misunderstanding you...
