Hi, a few weeks ago, I have been accepted to CSULB as pre-Aerospace Engineering and I was wondering what is the success rate of getting a decent job after graduating. I feel like even if I graduate, I won’t be able to get a job because of the overall competitiveness of the aerospace industry.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook is your friend. See https://www.bls.gov/ooh/architecture-and-engineering/aerospace-engineers.htm You can also call the dept and ask about their placement rate for grads the last few years.
Nobody has a crystal ball, including BLS. That said, your chances of getting a job improve if you take part in engineering clubs (especially those that build stuff and enter contests) and leap hold internships prior to graduating.
Also aerospace is a diverging job market. If you want the traditional job (airplanes or missiles) there are relatively few large employers and locations since the industry has been consolidating for decades now and they are at the whim of the Federal procurement budget. On the flip side there are new employers such as SpaceX, and also new areas where aerospace engineers can work such as in wind turbine design.
@mikemac Thanks! Do you now specifically if CSULB has a good program for aerospace engineering though?
I am currently a student in the aerospace engineering program at cal state long beach, as long as you secure internships and participate in project-based clubs you’ll have no problem finding a job. Numerous aerospace companies come on campus all throughout the year for workshops and job fairs giving you the ability to network with the recruiters from those companies.
Greetings, I’m currently a senior looking into CSULB’s aerospace engineering program. I have a 3.7 CSU GPA and 1310 (650 math) SAT so my EI is 4180. I’m kinda insecure about my current situation in regarding of getting admitted into CSULB and would you kindly share some of your valuable insight on CSULB such as whether or not the engineering classes there are rigorous? And if there is anything else you would like to share, I will be glad to hear it. @Skentoto @Simjee321
Hi with your sat score you will get in no problem, I’m starting my second year right now so i haven’t taken a lot of core engineering classes yet but some classes can be difficult depending on what professor you get but as long as you stay focused and take advantage of campus resources you will excel in your classes. I had my doubts of whether i would like CSULB when i first got here but now i realize its one of the best decisions I’ve made. Good Luck
