Summer animation program. Does anyone have an opinion about these 2 summer programs?
I don’t know about MaxtheMutt, but if by CalArts you mean the CSSSA program (California State Summer School of the Arts) it is excellent. You work with CalArts professors and if you are thinking about applying to CalArts they really like CSSSA students. My daughter did the theatre program at CSSSA and now she attends CalArts. CSSSA is very competitive and you need to get your recommendations and portfolio in by the February deadline.
I also do not know about MaxtheMutt, but my daughter attended CSSSA at CalArts last summer in the animation program. It was a very intensive 4 week program and the admission process is quite involved with essays, art submissions and recommendations. That being said, my daughter loved it and it confirmed her passion and desire to continue to pursue animation in college and beyond. Once you complete the program you are designated a California Arts Scholar and you can earn 3 college credits as well. If you are a California resident, you are eligible for financial assistance and many attendees receive a reduced tuition.
