CalArts vs SDSU vs UCLA for Costume MFA

Hi!

My career goal is to become a costume designer for film and TV! Although I graduate in 2017, I figured it's never too early to start looking for graduate schools. I'm working on putting together my own major with the help of a committee at my university (it would consist of Art, Theatre, and Film classes at my school as well as Fashion Design courses at a neighboring school) in perhaps Design for Film, or just plain Costume Design if I can manage it. I'm considering doing a double major with a major in Communications as well, just as a backup.

So, my costume design professor said that in order to get into the field, I would have to have an MFA. I've been emailing graduate schools to find out more about their programs, and so far CalArts, San Diego State University, and UCLA have had the most impressive programs. I wanted to know if anyone has taken costuming classes at any of these, or even just general theatre or film tech, and if there is any advice out there for me. Additionally, I'm open to considering other schools, so if there are any good programs I have missed, please let me know!

I would love the opportunity to talk with a graduate of any of these programs!

Thanks so much!
