How strict are they? I only have a TI-89 and a scientific calculator. Will i be fine with the scientific if they dont allow me to use my TI-89. Also do they check ur calculator or do they assume u should know?

You are not allowed to use a TI-89. Maybe your proctor will let you if they are clueless, but you risk invalidating your test if you use one, and it would be cheating.

If you REALLY can't find a calculator before the test (I mean, if you can find a store that opens before 8 AM and buy a TI-84+ or whatever, you may want to do so, or if you can borrow from any of your friends), use your scientific calculator and pray that you have a chance to take the test at a later test. After all, it's just the math section, right? ^_^;

Of course, if you are like me and only taking the ACT for the math section, that's not good. XD

my proctor didn't check at all all he said was u cant use TI-89. thats it, he looked pretty stupid i doubt he even knew anything. But i didn't use my TI-89 i used my scientific i didn't want to risk it! and i was fine with the scientific i had no problems

its annoying when i see a person using a ti 89 on the math... i swear to god one time i was taking the act and it was the science section and this girl was just punching in numbers and stuff on a ti 89. its annoying because when you take an act there is a small percentage that you know the person who is using the ti 89, so it makes it hard to approach them and be like hey dont cheat b/c you could invalidate all of our tests or etc. if you do you just sound like some world police or something, especially if the person tries to get all rude and crappy. also i didnt want to create drama ( i mean come on act can get kind of stressful for some people) and i thought that the proctor would have enough brain power to think something was fishy... i guess not. i dont know if they were too dumb to listen to directions or if they were just cheating. i use a ti 89 in calculus and thats understandable, but if you are just using it because you are too lazy to remember how to graph a circle it's annoying and ignoble.
a majority of schools usually have an overstock of graphing calculators , at least my school does, you can usually rent them out for tests and etc. or talk to a guidance counselor.

they can do your laundry... well they can find limits, derivatives, integrals (eww we know how messy this can get with trig sub) solve equations, find max / min, arc lengths, convert stuff, you can put flash cards on them and etc. you can also do series on them there are other things 89s can do but i haven't really explored beyond calc i/ii topics. they have better memory than the 84/83s basically its like carrying around a computer
