Calculator

Is there a particular type of calculator that UF math professors prefer? Is there a type they don't allow you to have?

For lower level math courses you’re not allowed to have a calculator for any quizzes or exams. Upper division I’m unsure of but I think my TA once said you can’t have them their either.

If you are doing any Math/Science Major (Including Engineering, Physics, Math, etc.) your best bet would be a TI-89. (For Stat majors you might want to get a TI-84)

For anything else, it isn’t really a big deal

You can’t use a calculator at all… At least I can’t… (Industrial & systems Engineering major)

If you’re going all the way up to diff. equations then you’ll prob. need a TI-89 like nks123 said because you’ll be doing 3d graphs in calc 3. and the TI 83 and 84 don’t have that feature. It also depends on your professor, what class is this for?

Your best bet is wait for the professor to announce that you will need a calculator for the course. If you can’t wait 'till the first day of class, by now you should know who your professor will be, go ahead and email him/her and simply ask if calculators are required for the class, and which model. Also, know that if the calculator isn’t required, then you’re not going to be allowed to use one in the tests -you can still use on in class though. It all depends on who your instructor is.
