calculators

heyy what calculator should i get for math 20a? thanks!

I got a TI 84 plus for 65 at office depot, you should look into that cuz it's pretty cheap.

any graphing calculator will do...but you should also get a scientific calculator for some chem classes...

There will be instances in Calculus where they won't allow you to use a graphing calculator. Graping calculators can derive and integrate for you, so obviously they aren't allowed on tests. I got a TI-30 just for tests.

Also some science classes will not allow graphing calculators because you can store written information on it. That's a no-no.

yeah I have a similar question. do i need a ti89 for math20b and chem6a?

@ Roflkeke, I thought you can't use calcs on math tests period?

If not, I'll get myself a TI 30.

There is no way in hell they will force you to do hard arithmetic by hand. Also exponents are popular, you can't get by without a calculator for those.

For my Math 20A & 20B classes, calculators were not allowed. I don't know about all of the math professors, but the majority of them don't allow calculators (neither scientific nor graphing). I know Eggers' series, which many math professors follow, don't allow them.

I was able to use a calculator in both 20d and 20f. 20c wouldn't let me, though. I just used a ti-83, nothing fancy. If you are relying on the calculator to do actual calculus for you, you're missing the point of the class.

iran, a ti-89 cannot be required for lower division math classes.

....but it was required for AP CALC BC

You were allowed to use a TI-8X on Calculus tests? Wow, that is a bad teacher.

oh god can you sound more like a whiny high schooler, you're starting college classes in a week!

dude i know that, but the 89 was useable on the AP TEST and some of the tests in AP CALC, it just helped to understand things when i couldnt do it myself

lol so you know you're a whiny high schooler at heart? and stop capitalizing ap calc like it's a big deal, it's just a way of a company called the collegeboard to steal money from naive kids like you

that was my point, im saying that if ti89's were a help in ap calc, then im sure i'll need on in math 20b

no that wasn't your point, you never had a point. stop bringing up ap calc.

the subject at hand is a need for calculators in math classes. i just told u i that i liked having one in ap calc, thus, under the laws of logic, im ASSUMING i'd need one for my benefit in math 20b.

now shut up and read "dummy's guide to rationale thinking"

"the subject at hand is a need for calculators in math classes. i just told u i that i liked having one in ap calc, thus, under the laws of logic, im ASSUMING i'd need one for my benefit in math 20"

You assumed. You were given the answer. Yet you continue to argue.

I never got the answer
