What kind of graphing calculator do we need for Calculus 9A? I prefer Texas Instruments over Casio. And how long are we going to be using them?

This question is only for 2nd year students who are in calculus 9a or higher. thanks.

Are we allowed to have CAS graphing calculators?

Those might be a bit too powerful…

no calculators at all
maybe for homework but we could not use calculators on test

Are you a sophomore luckycharms?
That is pretty hard to believe. Are you in Calculus 9A or higher?

guessing just a TI-84 is fine

I would get TI83 or 84

I bought a TI89 because I thought I’d make use of it in AP Calc BC, but I realized math was not for me… so I avoided Calc altogether. Now, it’s back to haunt me. =(

What i’ve read is that most college math courses don’t allow calculators. They want to see the setting up and simplification of the intergrals and derivatives (doing this may require you to do some mental math with logs, trig functions, and whatnot). Which I agree with. The calculus courses i’ve taken at my community college were just like that.

TI will be fine for anything calculus related. All you need is graphing and sometimes solving integrals.

once you get into higher stuff most graphing calculators become useless though :/

I remember when I was doing Taylor series we never used calculators

Taylor series is just annoying. Its easy but just takes bit of time lol

yeah im a sophmore people
and i only went up to 9b and im done with math
no calculators at all during tests.
u might need a graphing calculator for homework but its one problem per homework max that u might need it. teachers avoid those problems cuz no graphing calcs on test.

So you just use an online graphing calculator for those problems?
In high school Calculus AP, calculators were allowed. I wonder why not for college…

You don’t need it. That’s why.

Amazon is selling TI-89 for $140 (from $200). I’ll probably pick one up, especially since im doing engineering.

What about CNAS majors?

im a bio major and u dont need calcs.
chem is purely texas instrument 30, basic calcs but no graphing ones
like i said no graphing calcs for 9a, 9b, and i heard higher classes dont accept any either

Thanks a lot luckycharms!!
Why didn’t you continue with Calculus 9C?

dang now I gotta buy one of them scientific calculators…

shouldn’t everyone have a scientific calculator?! i still have mine from 5th grade :0
