Calculus 1, 2, and 3 Requirement

Hi there,

I’m a freshman at a top 20 university, committed to pre-med, and I’m wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how I should go about fulfilling my math requirement.

I hear that most med schools require 1 or 2 semesters of calc. I fulfilled this requirement with my AP Calc BC, and my school is giving me credit for both courses. However, I hear from some people that I should take at least one quarter of math in my time at college, even though I’ve fulfilled my requirement, or med schools will be less likely to accept me. So, should I just take calc 3 next quarter, or do calc 1 and 2 over the next two quarters and get a (probably) easy A?

For what it’s worth, I took calc 3 this quarter but dropped it about halfway through because it was hard and my work habits were poor. I also hear that calc 3 is easier next (winter) quarter because the curve is much better.

Thanks for any replies/advice in advance.

If you’re going to take a math class, take stats instead of calc 3 - it’s infinitely more useful for medicine.

Also stats is included on the MCAT.
