Calculus AP Credit

what if you have AP credit for stats?

What if you have AP Credit for both Calc BC and Stats? That's what I was planning on using.
Argh!!!!!! It's not fair that we have to forfeit all our hard work...

... it's because AP classes sometimes aren't as difficult as the actual college course.

Take a year of math. If you got AP credit, these classes will be easy for you, you'll get an easy A, it'll help your GPA. You'll probably appreciate an easy GPA booster once you get to school anyway.

Do schools show any flexibility in evaluating applicants? For example, what if the applicant did not take any math (due to AP credit) but was a Marshall, Gates or Rhodes Scholar? They'd still reject him?

They would make an exception. So if you are confident that you are going to win a Rhodes, there's no need to take math your freshman year.

Lol!!!
......

Thanks bdm. That's good to know. ;)

What about a 5 on AP Calculus AB, I then took Calculus II at my college (got an A), and I have a 5 on AP Statistics. Will that cover me?

Take one more just to be safe.

Statistics or what?

Either take basic stats, see if the stats department offers something higher, or just take Calc III. Any of these work, so long as they're in the math or stats departments.

If lalanichols and cur only knew the full story....but they don't. ;)

Au contraire. ;) You might be surprised at what I know. Oh, BTW please pass on my congratulations. Quite impressive!!

Cur, thanks for the complement to you know who, and thanks for respecting privacy! And good luck to yours.

I just read through all of this and now I'm starting to worry. Not about the math but about the English. We have a college comp requirement at my school, but I get out of it because I am an honors student. I also would have gotten out of it anyways because of AP Lit and Lang (both 4's). So do I still need to go back and take a basic comp course or does the honors program/AP credits suffice?

Yeah, you need a year of English.

haha so confusing. my q is - i got a 5 on ap bc, and will have 2 semesters of statistics done by the end of this year. Will this be ok?

note my statistics classes are called econ 202 and econ 203 - applied statistics for business majors. We use keller's statistics for business and economics. They still are fairly tough and involve a lot of calculations.

thanks

Unfortunately you might run into a little trouble. I have a vague recollection that some schools specifically want calculus. Second, though, and more importantly, AMCAS (and therefore what your transcript looks like) is heavily dependent on course department, not course subject matter. It's very likely that they'll categorize your courses as economics (i.e. social science), not statistics (i.e. math), in which case it will appear as if you've taken no math in college.

boooo.

haha thanks for your help tho bdm. guess i'll be looking for some math classes to take now.

K multiple questions. I have taken CalC I but its in a DE program, (which i dont know if you guys know), its a program where i take comunity college classes in my high school and it counts as college credit but i dont have to pass an AP test i just have to take the class. Now this Class does prepare me for the AP test but its not a requirement to take it. Now should i take the AP test? And i am able to even take CALC II during High School in this program and i am already signed up, as well as taking Freshman Comp I and II and i am already signed up on those 2 too. SO my question is, if i am in this program should i take this classes and then re take them in College or should i be good enough on just taking them here in my last year of High School?
