Calculus dilemma

Recently I have been looking over my schedule and found a pretty big flaw in it. I want to go into business, and from what I have read taking AP calc is very important and pretty much mandatory in order to be eligible for many business courses in college. However, with my current schedule, I am in grade level math. Right now I am a sophomore and taking geometry, next year I will take algebra 2, and senior year I will take trigonometry. This leaves no room for calc. Through my school, only the more basic levels of math are taught through summer school such as algebra 1/geometry. Is there any way I can take algebra 2 or trig over the summer somewhere so I can take AP calc senior year? Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Try taking algebra 2 and trigonometry online.

If I were you, I would befriend the ap calculus teacher. A friend of mine had the same problem and took algebra 2 while doing an independent study where the ap calculus teacher taught him what he needed for pre-cal. He was able to skip pre-cal and go straight to ap calculus. Just to let you know the ap calculus teacher at my school is eccentric and everyone listens to him…including the guidance consellors. Or you could take pre-cal over the summer between jr and sr year at a community college.
Good Luck-at my school most sophomores take geometry and algebra 2 at the same time…you might want to warn some of the freshman so they don’t run into the same problem.
Just take the most challenging courses offered and maybe try a summer business program or intern at a local business. Good Luck!

self study alg2/trig … or take them at community college over the summer ?

^ I agree.
Take it Alg 2 and/or Trig at a CC

Well at my school the order goes geometry>algebra 2> trig>calc, so the only thing I really need to do is get algebra out of the way so I can take trig junior year and calc senior year. The only problem is HOW to get it out of the way because they don’t offer it through my schools summer school program. Will I be able to find a CC that has an algebra 2 course over the summer? or are there any alternatives like self study and take an exam to skip algebra? any ideas are welcome

new york state has the regents program, where certain tests need to be passed and certain amounts of credits need to be acquired in order for graduation.

I know a lot of kids that choose to self study for a regents exam to pass it and then move on to the “accelerated” pathway. As long as you take another class (calc) in place of the algebra, there might be some test in your state that will allow you to skip the class

Or another best bet would be to look to a CC or possibly another high school in the area that offers algebra in its summer program. Then ask your guidance counselor about transfer credits etc.

Don’t forget that calc is not ESSENTIAL to getting into college, yes its nice, especially to place out of college calc, but you can always take it once you get to college
