Taking pre-calculus at the community college?

Taking classes at the community college is a new phenomenon for me, I only recently found out that high school students can actually do that from my forum. I am a junior, and I am in Alg2/Trig right now. I really wanted to be able to take AP Calc as a senior (I really love math), but I would have to take pre-calculus beforehand.

Has anyone taken this "shortcut" by taking pre-calc over the summer at the CC and then taking AP Calc during the year? Is this a good idea? I don't really have anything to do over the summer, and I think this would be a good way to spend a portion of it.

All answers / experiences are appreciated.

It’s fine, as long as your school will give you credit for it.

I contacted my grade level principal, I won’t get HS credit it for it, but I would be allowed to take AP Calc senior year, which is all I really care about, then I’ll still have 4 years of math anyway.

But I feel I may be taking on a bit too much this summer. I still need to take another PE class, which I have signed up for this summer at my school, between 7:30-10:00, then I’d be taking a pre-calc at the CC (15 minutes from my house) from 11:00-1:25, then I also got a job. It’s like school never ends!

Just be aware that your grade will be part of your college transcript.

Dual Enrollment is a pretty great opportunity, but you should ask someone with experience with the teacher and class at the community college (or check teacher ratings, but they’re hardly accurate) to find out how difficult it would be to take it.

Alright guys, thanks for the responses ! I think I will be okay because I’ll have a lot of time to dedicate to just one class and I really love math.
