Calculus I or Calculus II

What is the difference in difficulty between calc 128 vs calc 132?

First is for b-school and is a lot easier…if you plan on doing Engineering, Econ, Math, etc. it won’t count at all. 132 is the normal class.

I am going to be going into the b-school yet they put me into math 132. I don’t understand the difference.

Calc II is an easy class at Wash U, and I’m awful at test-taking, having nearly failed bio and chem. The test format is 14 multiple choice and 2 short answer (which are more designed to guide you through slightly lengthier problems), and you are allowed to bring one 3x5 notecard. That’s it. There’s not much of a curve (if there is one at all), but you don’t really need it. All you have to do to study is print out the last couple of old exams that they give you (they give you a lot!) and work them out. No other studying required, unless you’re still having trouble on a certain topic. In addition, there are PLTL (Peer-Led Team Learning) groups (like tutoring but provide you with extra practice problem sets) for the class that I recommend.

If you do get a 5 in AB Calc, you’re set. I know a few people who have taken Calc I and said it was a bit confusing. I have a friend who occasionally asked me for help on Calc I homework, and I was left scratching my head and wondering what the heck they were teaching in that class.

There are lots of people who take Calc III (if they’re in engineering or something), and they do like to complain. Especially when the flood of people came back from taking the final, I heard numerous comments about how bad that was and speculations about the curve.

Just for reference to future freshmen, I ended up taking Calc II and finished with a 100%. Totally doable.

accordingtome- did you take Calc 2 at Wharton where you were accepted ED??
