hey guys, i am in calculus ab and i wanted to know is it better to get the 4 or 5 and go to calc 2 in stern or take calc 1 again? also, is there a business calc i could take instead? thanks

i am wondering the same exact thing

As Stern does not require Calculus II, I would try to get a 4 or 5. If you were to take Calculus II, it would fulfill a Natural Science requirement.

The Calculus AB Exam is extremely easy compared to the BC exam; you shouldn't have a problem earning a 4 or 5.

First of all, if you want to fulfill a natural science requirement,
Calc II won't do it.

you gotta get 4 or 5 on AP Physics(b or c), Chem, or Bio.

And second, if you were able to pull a 5 on Calc AB, go to Calc II..

Why would you pay some $300 dollars per session just to take a review course.......

how many calc. levels are there for stern?

Dunno if my experience helps, but here goes.

In high school I took both Calc AB and BC (long story, I know it's weird), but I scored 4's on both exams. Freshman year I elected to take Calc II and Calc III, and I got B+'s in both classes.

I'm good with basic calc, but those wacky trigonometric functions and series... wooow.

so are you done with calculus after calc. III?- excuse my ignorance

all stern student have to take calc, no matter what u score on the AP exams.

i know my question is whether to do well on the AP and go to a higher level class or take Calc 1 and get the easier grade?

its completely up to you. but practically, it doesn't make sense to pay for a course that will only serve as a review. i would suggest take II, if you end up with a 4 or above on the exam.

well, if you want to take a review course that costs you $4000, it's up to you :)

Depends on whether you want to take the lazy route or not. Calc 2 at NYU is a crappy class, BUT when you're done with it, you'll only have to take 2 more classes (most people take either discrete math, linear algebra, or calc 3) to get a math minor.

I used AP credit for Calc I, took Calc II at a local university the summer before I went to NYU & transferred the credit in, then took linear algebra + calc 3 to get my minor. Easiest minor ever...

Bottom line: you CAN just take Calc I or business calc to fulfill your requirement, but I don't know if I'd recommend it. And if you are just going to retake calculus, please take Calc I - it'll be easy after AP calc, and business calc doesn't teach you anything useful as far as I know.

business calc is no longer an option. have to calc I or above
