First, my ta decided to leavE back to China before our final grass are actually due. I have had the flu for a good two weeks--its been absolutely terrible. I just received the homework he graded of mine and there are grading errors that bring me to a 12/20 instead of 16/20 for the most recent assignment! Homeworks are worth 20% of the grade in this calc class. i also have one last homework that i was supposed to give him today (which was due in class on Friday) but I was in and out of the hospital all week. I emailed him and asked if I could drop the homework off during his office hours on monday but he never responded--i went to his office hours today and another guy was like...hmmm he went back to china on a literary tour. I understand that TAs have lives too but I was just blown away that he didnt mention this to anyone in section nor in the email response. What should I do about this homework grade?? i cant afford a 0 or a 12/20.Also, do you think its possible to get a B- in this class? :(
homework-20%: *60%
midterm 1-20%: *70 and the average was 85 (standard deviation of 15 points)
midterm 2-20%: 50 and the average was 62 (standard deviation was VERY wide)
now the final is worth 40%.
if i do average on the final is it possible to get a B-?I heard the professor curves to a B/B+

If you can’t reach the TA, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to go straight to the professor. (Or another TA in case your course has more than one.)

About your grade: Yes, it should still be doable for you to get a B- with a good enough performance on the final. How good is good enough, I can’t say. I don’t know how the course grades will be distributed, nor do I know how that 60% homework score compared to your classmates’.

I was just a TA for Calc 3 at my own university and the department set the following grade distribition:
30% A-range grades
40% B-range grades
15% C-range grades
15% Ds and Fs

With this grade distribution, being one standard deviation below the mean would give you a C-. For a B-, you’d have to be within half a standard deviation of the mean.

Thank you. The homework grade will not be curved. I just went to the professor during his designated office hours…waited around for awhile. He never came to the office.
I actually can’t think straight at all right now and the final is on Wednesday.
Yes calc 1 was set up pretty similarly. I got a c+ lady semester and I was never anywhere close to the average at all…I feel like I’m closer to it this semester

Have you tried emailing the professor? Explain your two concerns but keep it brief; professors are busy people and generally more sympathetic if they don’t have to read a whole novel to figure out that you want a homework regrade or an extension for a late assignment. (Does your course have an official policy about late submissions, by the way?)
