So I’m not the best math student, so I was wondering if I should go take calc or AP calc for my junior year math class. Here have been my grades (all honors maths):
Algebra 1 - 90%
Algebra 2 - 87%
Geometry - 93%
Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry - 81%
So, should I drop down to regular Calculus? I feel like it would be more my speed, but would it look bad?
Or…I could take AP Calc and study it over the summer. (My school says that I’m supposed to have an 85% in precalc/trig to take AP calc)
What do you think is the best option?
This is the medical school area of this forum. Are you asking this because you plan to go to medical school someday?
In my opinion, you should take regular calculus.
Regular calc and study precalc this summer. If you know precalc well, calc should be much, much easier. Studying Calc this summer to help you next year is less important in my opinion than making sure you have your precalc down.
Oh, sorry I didn’t know. I plan on going into a stem career (bio, psych, environmental science, chem, etc) do you think regular calculus would be better than AP?
Okay, but would this look from going to honors maths and dropping down to regular?
You need a good math foundation. Forget about what “looks good” if you move to regular calculus. Do you think it will look good if you get a D in AP Calc.
That’s true. Idk though. I feel like maybe I could study a bit over the summer. But if I do take regular calc, I can add another class (calc is one semester, AP is two) so I could take honors Earth Science or something.
