As much as you can manage.

Unless you're good at it, I'd avoid high-track chemistry like the plague. Just stay in the regular track (assuming they still have tracks, of course).

Afternoon Z!

You can bank on Sis taking the bare minimum concerning chem. Drives her nuts that her 13 year old brother absolutely loves the stuff!

You will hear a speech on I-day from the Supe, Commandant of Midshipmen, etc.
We heard the speech last year. A recurring theme is: { summarize] Through the selection process, EVERY ONE of the kids in attendance that day has the capability of making it--the entire four years.
Some will choose to not make it. Some will choose to dismiss by the end of the summer. Many will choose to dismiss at the end of two years.
By the time a kid makes it as far as I-day, the government has already invested quite a bit of time and money in selecting that child. The administration WANTS your child to succeed. There are no classes designed to weed your child out. That process has already taken place.

As a mid suggested in another thread, if you are weak in an area, start exercising your brain. Review your chemistry/calculus books or buy an AP review book and work problems.

My Cisco Networking Academy teacher (a Major in the Army Reserve via ROTC) told me that Westpoint overloads the freshman class with the intention of only keeping 60% of them!

If that's true, then 40% of them are automatically destined for failure!

No, it means that they expect 40% to fail, quit, etc.

BTW, that figure is rediculous. No academy has a dropout rate that high.

This guy is hilarious and he's constantly bashing everything I say I'm trying to do (USNA) but I can seriously imagine that many people hating it. It's Army. The Quality of Life isn't that great. My brother is in the Army in Afghanistan and he says that he hates it along with the rest of his unit. He also hated it when he was back in the states (on a crappy base in Fort Drum, NY).

So anyway, this teacher (Mr. Meyer), he'll constantly go on about how the Navy sucks and I'm going to fail. Everyone finds it hilarious. Every so often, I'll confront him on it saying that it's what I dream of doing and so on and so forth. He said about the 60% thing because even if I did get into the Academy, there's still a chance of failure (obviously)...but probably greater in the Army than Navy.

Tell him to FOAD. Put a "sir" on the end of it so you won't be fried for disrespect.

Warning: That doesn't work as a Plebe. ;)

Lol I had to refer to acronymfinder.com for the FOAD. I've never heard that before. But I don't think "freak off and die sir" (polite form, obviously) would work. He's my source for a good recommendation letter. I voice my disapproval for what he does but I don't disrespect him. How much weight would a recommendation letter from him hold?

Doesn't sound like it.

usnso - hit him with the facts: 94% retention of freshman class; 86% graduation rate. Check out other major colleges/universities. This rate is OUTSTANDING.

Big difference is:

MOST want to be at the Academy

The Academy, unlike "regular" institutions of higher learning, DO CARE if you make it.

Wow 94%...that's amazing! I didn't realize it was that high!

Careful! You might confuse him!

Army isn't really known for their high intelligence levels. They're very prestigious for their...wait...nevermind. At least they're good with their...wait...that won't work either. At least they exist!

Navy seems to be really good all around (quality of life, work ethic, morale, morals, benefits, travel, hazards, etc.)

Therefore, GO NAVY!

It's not Army. It's HIM.

Army is just full of people who dress funny! :D

WOOP! WOOP! WOOP! ;)

usnso- time to tone it down a bit, and not let your entheusiam get the best of you!

Thank goodness we have the Army- and the Navy- and the Marines- and the Air Force- and the Merchant Marine- and all those Coasties- and enough great kids willing to work their B#$$s off and put their hearts and souls into making the choice to go A-N-M-AF-MM-CG- over the miriad of alphebet soup colleges and universities that also want them in their student body- choosing, instead, a path that might even put them in the line of fire where their very life is on the line- and given up-

So while I applaud your entheusiasm to "GO Navy".....I would caution you not to overlook- or bash- the other fine folks that might chose another uniform- especially when you have not had a chance to put one on for yourself!!! Fun is fun, and that includes academy rivilry, but careful what you say 'bout the uniform- ANY uniform- in MHO!

So lesson young grasshopper- YOUR life might one day depend on someone in desert cammies eating MRE's and doing far more than merely "existing!" They certainly have not chosen an easy path- and it certainly isn't for lack of intellectual ability! ;)

Now Z- you're not helping here!!!! ;)

BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Sorry, but bashing Hudson High is always in fashion! ;)

"Army isn't really known for their high intelligence levels. ".......Hmmmmmmmmmm usnso....my nephew with his 1590 SAT is in the Army....is he dumb????

It's fun to tease about bashing the other branches of the Service...but let's make sure we remember every person who serves deserves our admiration, not charicatures.

CHEMISTRY IS DEATH.

sorry, knee-jerk reaction. ever had that experience where you sit down to take a test after hours of studying, and turn the page to realize that you are freaking clueless and its a wing and a prayer to pass? if you haven't, oh you shall my friend. plebe chemistry is probably the single biggest ego-deflater of my plebe year. no kidding.

Alright. I'll apologize. I have 100% full respect for all members that make that hard choice to serve their country in ANY way. That especially includes the five branches. I have absolutely nothing against the other branches. It's inter-agency bashing. It's a constant thing of people of various armed forces in constant competition. It's actually good for morale to "poke fun" at the others. I have never seen a member of the services take it offensively. My brother is in the Army and is in Afghanistan. I love him and I respect him so much for what he is doing, along with the rest of the soldiers, airmen, seamen, marines, and coastguardsmen.

So, again, I apologize. It was in no way meant to discredit or poke any disrespect at any members of our beloved armed services.

Go Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Air Force!
