Calculus...

I took AP BC this year (i dont know what I got yet, but this is assuming I passed)

Should I take calculus 2 or 3 at college...I need a high GPA for grad school, i'm pre-vet. How have your experiences been with math?

Simple answer...

To "pass" and place out of Math 12 (calc II) and into math 13 (multi-variable), you need to get a 5 on the BC test. A 3 or a 4 gets you out of Math 11 (basic calc). No matter what, you shouldn't take math 11. If you got a 5 on the BC calc version and for some reason want to take multi-variable (not sure why you would need it, unless you plan on taking engineering, physics, or chem/physics courses), feel that you were very strong in that area, then go right ahead and take math 13. The Tufts math courses are not very difficult - I would give entirely different advice about placing out of chem, for example.

So... whatever you do, place out of math 11. As for math 12 v. math 13, you need at least a 5 to place into math 13. You could re-take math 12 if you think it would be helpful for physics 11 and 12 (physics courses that you'll probably need as a pre-vet).

The math department also always has some really fantastic professors, often better than the high school teacher you had in the first place, so as long as you do your research and find out who's good and get into their class, you may even really like the class. I love Math 13 with Benes, for example, and people had a lot of good to say about Gonzalez and Tu...for Math 12 Garant is supposedly amazing.

thanks so much! I will probably be taking math 12

oh yeah, Glaser is good for Math 12 I'm told.

I took math 11 and 12. Math 11 was easy, intertesting, and I learned quite a bit, but math 12 was HORRIBLE!!!! Take it over the summer somewhere else if possible.

I'm taking Math 11 first semester. I took AB calc this year so i don't think it'll be too bad... then i'll probably take symmetry or something prob not Math 12.

Math 12 I hear is the hardest of the three calculus courses.

i hear that too. and i even had to drop 13 lol

should I just not take math?

well, you need to satisfy two math distribution requirements.

Math absolutely sucks. I took 12 with Hahn who had good intentions, but made a bad teacher. It's a very obnoxious class. Don't take math if you don't absolutely have to.

I'm going to need 1 credit of math...how is math 17?

only if you really like math.

lol well i basically have to take either calc 2 or math 17...or would you guys recommend a different math class that is easier and more fun?

wait, what's 17 again? I'm...too lazy to log into SIS lol.

I have no idea...i'm pretty sure I will be taking calc II. How hard is it exactly as compared to high school BC calculus
