Calhoun or Davenport?

I was accepted EA, and I’m a double legacy, so I believe I’ll have the option to live in either of my parents’ residential colleges. I’m planning in majoring in either history, economics, or political science.

Should I choose Calhoun or Davenport? Has one been more recently renovated or is known to have nicer suites? What do you think of the masters and deans?

Thanks a bunch!

They’re both the best, as you’ll soon discover. If you’re unsure, maybe you should decline the option to pick and just throw your fate to the random gods.

All the colleges have been renovated so that is not a consideration. Have you seen them? Once you’re in Davenport’s courtyard, it looks colonial though it has the same exterior as the rest of the schools. Which one your parents is more adamant about you being in their college? That is the one I would go with. My D chose Jonathan Edwards because that was mine. She loves it.

Also, if you go to Bulldog Days, talk to some of the current students. You don’t have to choose now anyway. The tone and tenor of colleges change over years and they will have changed since your parents have been there which has to have been at least 20 years ago.

One issue to be aware of is that Calhoun may end up being renamed in the near future, and even if it isn’t renamed there is likely to be an ongoing debate over renaming. So, think about whether that might be something you would see as a distraction or, conversely, something you would want to be involved in.

The Calhoun name change thing won’t be happening

Not now, certainly, but it may arise again in the near future, as @tdy123 said.

Which parent would be more excited about having you in that college? If there’s a clear difference, that’s the one to pick.
