Califnornian Resident

DOes being born in california qualify you as a state resident??

I don't think so. I think California residency is established by living in the state for at least 2 years.

if my parents are residents, do i autmoatically qualify as one?

you have to have gone to high school in CA.

^ that's true. You need at least 4 years in CA??? I'm not so sure but I believe that if your parents are residents, then you are also one. However, you must live in CA for at least 2 years. DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, though. I just vaguely remember something I read in the UC and CSU applications. But I might be wrong.

And,...how can your parents be residents but you aren't??? That might place you in the out-of-state category.

You can always call the Office of Admissions and ask. They will definitely have the correct answer. Try that.

if one of your parents pays CA taxes, you can claim residency. (if someone can prove to the contrary, please do so!)

why would your parents live in CA without you living in CA, you ask? divorce is one situation.

there are many, many rules that you must abide in order to determine your residency status. some of us know a couple, some others. Anyway, if your parents are divorced, that's a special case that has its own rules as well!

Here's the link to the whole California Residency compliance according to Cal Registrar's office.

REMEMBER TO READ THE WHOLE THING. You stated very little about you for us to make assumptions. Who knows? Anybody could be right AND wrong. Like I said, yours is a special case.
