I just recently have been admitted into Ole Miss and I cannot decide if it would be a good choice to go there or not. I have lived in Northern California all my life and I love it here, but I am ready to go somewhere else for college. From what I have heard about Ole Miss it sounds like a place I would really enjoy, but do you think it would be too much of a culture shock for someone who grew up in a very, VERY liberal part of the US to suddenly move to Oxford, Mississippi? And would I be alienated for not exactly fitting in with the people in the South? PLEASE HELP!

It would be a bit of a culture shock, but that might be a good thing because you would undoubtedly learn a lot from the experience (and other students can learn from you). I would be willing to bet that you will have a great experience at Ole Miss. Just be yourself and go in with an open attitude.

Have you visited? That would be pretty important before you make that kind of move.

Visiting would be a very good idea. It will be different, the question is if the difference is something you can handle. If you can’t visit, you might try looking at the student newspaper [The Daily Mississippian | The Student News Portal of University of Mississippi](http://thedmonline.com/) and seeing what sort of activities are available.

Not everyone would be happy going to a school where “Old South Weekend” is an honored tradition. But lots of people love Ole Miss! Visit if you possibly can to see if you’ll fit in.
