Just got an email from PBS noting that they would be playing holiday specials from previous years during December leading up to the current year special on Christmas Day. Check local PBS listings I guess. Was going to add this to old thread, but seems it was closed in early 2021. Still one of my favorite shows!
We started watching The Handmaid’s Tale late this year. Often relentlessly depressing, but also timely. Wanting to take a break, we began watching Call the Midwife for the first time. It offers a great antidote to Handmaid, so we now sometimes intersperse the two rather than binging either.
I never read any of the Chicken Soup for the Soul type books when they were popular, but I find Call the Midwife and All Creatures Great & Small to be tv that fits that criteria. I tend to gravitate to these types of shows at the end of the day. I do love Elizabeth Moss and I know The Handmaid’s Tale is acclaimed, but I don’t have Hulu.
Just finished the current season. I don’t enjoy the current ones as much as the first few, but there’s something so comforting in watching them.
I just love the opening music and scenes of everyday life among the mothers and children. And the voiceover of “mature Jenny”, well, I just love that, too. Brings a tear to the eye at the end sometimes.
Don’t forget to program your DVRs for the Christmas Special on Sunday night. A perfect way to end the day, IMO.
I’ll be watching
