Hi. Okay lets get this straight. I suck at critical reading. I have a 500 in critical reading and I wanted to get a 600 or higher. I want to improve my reading score my 100 points or higher in exactly ONE MONTH. I already have Rocket Review Revolution and Both Direct hits. I'm determined to memorize all words in DH and study the reading portion of RR. Is there another book that I should study or is RR and DH all I need to improve my reading score by 100 points in one month. Thanks for your input.

I would spend less time memorizing words and more time taking practice tests.

Agreed with teenage_cliche- if you think about it, sentence completion is only like 30% of the CR section (and you should be able to get the all but the last one or two sentcomp questions in each section anyway). The rest is all reading comprehension.

So instead, try focusing on doing lots of CR practice sections (from the blue Collegeboard book if possible). On test day, you will surely get a little boost purely from the adrenaline and your resulting hyper-concentration.

Hey,

I went from a 590 to a 690 in a pretty short period of time (I think it may have actually been less than a month), so it's def. possible.

But I 100% agree with everyone else. Take tons of practice tests (at least 15+) b/c after awhile, you just understand how College Board thinks. When taking practice tests, don't waste time on math/writing if you already feel you can do well on those. Just take the CR portions of the test and make sure you ACCURATELY time yourself.

I think the main thing that kept my score low (as in a 690) was lack of vocab (I usually miss 2 sentence completions per section). So if you can find the time, DEFINITELY go over some vocab lists to improve 700+. If not, your main focus should be practice tests, b/c as I said....... after awhile, you'll just "feel" the right answers and you'll be able to spot the wrong ones instantly.

Hope that helped

Astonisher,
you definitely "astonished" me
How did you do it? How did you study?
according to PSAT, Iwould get around 600 in CR. So I'm in a similar situation.
And I don't have much time to study. About 2-3months.
I am hoping for +700 but CR just feels so hard for me (maybe bc I'm international)
But, really , how did you study and how much did you study everyday?

Oh, and what prepbooks do you recommend?

For Critical Reading I don't think prep books can help that much. Like the others in this thread stated, you just have to take practice tests and get a feel for the section.
