CALLING ALL AP EURO Kids! Help...

Hey guys, I have to write an essay on the prompt
**
"How did the congress of vienna affect Europe socially and economically?"**

I'm going black here.. I know that Congress of Vienna, aka Concert of Europe is the first time the nations worked together to maintain balance of power.

Can anyone else here give me some ideas?

well Metternich (v. important figure) chaired it and he was an aristocrat who believed that the common people should be suppressed. this was an attempt on the elites part to slow down the spread of liberalism (I mean this in the way that they saw it, not its current connotation). check out wikipedia, it always has all the answers

thankks!

Anyone else?

It was very important in its suppression of nationalism. The concert of Europe was sick of the fighting and they thought that nationalism would bring more wars. Metternich disliked nationalism because he was in charge of Austria, which is a nation composed of many different cultures, so a revolution would probably occur if nationalism was not suppressed. As a result countries tried to stop any new revolutions (exception of the Greek Revolution). As a result, there were no large scale wars for a long time, until the Crimean War.
Economically I think that it increased the use of intercontinental trade.

The Number one thing to remember about the Congress of Vienna is "Balance of Power"

First of all, it restored old regimes, which would mostly affect the people, who wanted a democracy negatively. The Congress of Vienna restored balance to Europe like giving land back won by war, etc.

This is in addition to what the other people wrote before me; there is no point in re-typing what the other people had written.

The Congress of Vienna tried to restore the old regime as far as possible, as it was before Napoleon stormed through and set up his new codes (and to some extent, democracy). Titles, lands, and monarchies were restored. Since this was the case, monarchs of course took back the "freedoms" gained previously. What do you think the effects of these were?

On the other hand, the Congress is also praised for averting general warfare in Europe for about 100 years.

The balance of power mostly concerns five major powers (Great Britain, Austria, Prussia, Russia, Fance). A note of interest, which can be regarded as a social effect (though it didn't much affect it), but the Congress condemned the slave trade.
