Princetonwannabe - that's AMAZING!!! congratulations man...i'd be so f-ing ecstatic if i were you...hope you dont mind me asking, but what were your stats like?

Yeah, if the guys who've already got in could post their stats and acceptances so we could get an idea of what would make the ideal canadian applicant that would be great~

and congrats Princetonwannabe for all those great acceptances!

I'll post my stats...

Accepted: UChicago (Deferred EA, accepted RD)
Rejected: Nowhere...I applied to Chicago in the first year of my two-year CEGEP program, sort of as a practice....so I'm just going to go there, instead of turning them down and trying for more schools this year.

Stats:

GPA: 87% UW
Course load: Hardest possible, all honours (no APs/IBs offered).
Rank: 8/77
SAT I: 1420 (730v, 690m)
Didn't take SAT IIs.

Teacher recs: Excellent, but a little generic.
Counselor rec: Overflowing with praise.
Essays: I thought they were pretty good...mixed feedback; people loved the first 2/3 and weren't so crazy about the last 1/3.

ECs: HS Newspaper Writer/Editor (3 yrs.), Literary Journal Editor (2 yrs.), Guitar and Bass (4 yrs.), Quiz Team (1 yr.), Softball Team (1 yr.), Battle of the Bands Organizer (1 yr.), part-time job. I also included an article I wrote that was published by the Montreal Gazette. I stupidly forgot to date it or indicate the publication.

nice stats jpps1~
and congrats on the acceptance and thanks for sharing!

hello, I am also from Canada (bc) and I am going to be applying to some of the ivies, mit, caltech.....that sort of thing.
Here is a quick post of my stats:

female, junior, Vancouver Island
96% average for grade 11
97% for grade 12 (I've taken a few gr. 12 courses)
taking 4 APs-- by self studying
some good ec's (they could use some world though)--distinguished ballet dancer, very musical, etc.
I havent decided if I am going to go into Physics or Philosopy, the combined program at Oxford sounds good!

anyways there is a quick overview, I haven't taken the SATs yet, but they should be good. Do you think there is a chance?? I guess we'll see!

wow thread died so fast!

So is anyone here going to shad this summer>?

I'm not going to shad but a lot of my friends are going.
One of my friends is going to Queens.
They're very excited.

cool ... anyone going to Calgary that you know of? Cause I am. 2 more weeks!

i'm going to shad :) UBC!

nice to see some other Canadians too

well my stats:

GPA: 88% unweighted for all 3 years so far
SAT: 1390 on old SAT - Doing NewSAT in November, doing SAT IIs in October
ECS: a lot of things a few are:
varsity basketball
varsity volleyball
volunteered at a local hospital
volunteered at a dentist's office

I don't get why so many people like Queens, I live in Kingston and you wouldn't believe how many times my teachers have lectured me about going to Queens for undergrad, it's not even one of the top 15 undergrad schools in Canada. I don't know where everyone gets the idea it's awesome. I'll admit the graduate system is great but the undergraduate isn't worth it.

I think Queens is very internationally recognized....yes..I agree with you...
Even business in Western is sloping down these years though it is still good interpreted by outsiders......

no, Queen's isn't great, it's just got the prestige, i hear their education system is crumbling and decaying.... i rejected it and took u of t, b/c it's closer to home and is an excellent school
i think the fact that queen's is so prestigious is b/c we live in Canada and we are all "loyal to the queen" shrug and that's why Queen's is popular. And also, lots of rich snobby kids go there, so their parents give Queen's the hype

please read my mail in PM.I am from T/O going next yr into grade 11.

I'm a Canadian but no longer in Highschool. I'm in going to second year UofT but hoping to transfer for my third year to the USA.

I also don't understand why Queens is so great, when I was applying to University almost everyone I knew wanted to get into Queens after they did and really did some research into Queens they turned it down.
Queens isn't that well know internationally...McGill,UBC and UofT is much better know then Queens.

I go to Old Scona Academic in Alberta, going into gr. 11 (I don't see too many Albertans on this site :P)
By the way, I am an international student; I have a citizenship in South Korea, not in Canada. I've been living here for almost 5 years now. I am gonna apply to MIT/Caltech/Harvard/Princeton/UCLA/UC Berkeley/U of Toronto/U of Waterloo.

GPA: 95.3%
Rank: 1 or 2/128
SATs: haven't taken before. But looking at my performances on practice questions so far, I am guessing/hoping I will get 2250+ =).

Question! I am thinking of attaching a resume to my application. Will it help if I put my achievements in my childhood years also, or will they just disregard it?

Hey guys. I'm a grade 11 from Stony Plain, Alberta and I attend Memorial Composite High.

Grades:
math - 89%
english - 85%
science - 88%
social - 90%
german - 96%
french - 85%
and some other classes which are mostly fine arts related I recieved all 90+.
My over all average is a 89% (with all my other classes added)

EC's
School newspaper
Student Council prez
Choir (one which we had to adition for, the other just a regular school choir)
Volunteering with some local organizarions
And part time cheering for basketball games (I can blame Student Council for that one!)
Sport clubs

I've recieved numerous awards over the years. Some Memorial awards which I got because I acted like the dead person during my junior high years. I've always gotten honours, 2 music awards, leadership award, community involvement award and the list goes on....

I'm thinking about applying to the U of A obviously, Cornell, Brown, and Welsh SF, and maybe some ivies, (depending on how my grades turn out this year) but most likely I'll be attending the U of A.

coolness_rookie you've been incredibly busy. I just saw on your post that you're not a canadian citizen, neither am I. I am originally from Switzerland, and I moved here just about 5 years ago.

good to see some similarities we have, micceli =) I haven't been as busy as it sounds above actually. Written down, it seems like quite a bit of stuff, but really, I am really not that busy (haha, I used to be on msn almost 24/7 talking to my friends until this summer)

I wish you good luck in college applications and hope you get accepted to a university that you want to attend!

same here.... I am so worried about the FA policy for CA students. Now only Cornell explicitly states that both PR and citizen get need-blind financial aid......... realli donno about other ivies...maybe just send Canadian tax return form ... that works?
