Calling all fellow Accel. Med Applicants!

Hello all! This new CC board is uber-spiffy.
Anyhow...
So which schools is everyone applying to?
~Kiwi

hey kiwi, good luck. Im applying to Northwestern, Brown, Boston University, Rice/Baylor, and USC's medical programs. I might apply to like miami's program too but i ahven't decided. good luck all!

hey, what are your guys stats if you don't mind me asking :)

I'm applying to Brown, Boston Univ, Penn State, Case Western, and maybe northwestern

but i have a problem

Northwestern requires 4 units of high school math, and technically, I only took 3 years of math classes IN high school - pre calc, ap calc ab, ap calc bc - and this year, I could not fit a math class in as i have an internship and I had to take ap english (need 4 years of english) instead of ap statistics

However, I took geometry and algebra 2/trig in middle school, which are high school math courses....

so my question is do those classes in middle school count towards my 4 units of high school math?

thanks

yea what are your guys stats?

mistaippa, i know exactly what you mean about 3 math credits....our hs and ms are connected, so in 8th grade, i came up to the hs every day to take alg 2....but now the hs refuses to give me the numerical credit because of some lame technicality....anyways, i talked to an admissions counselor, who told me that most program people only have "3 years of math" in hs b/c they've taken bc calc their junior year (if they aren't even more accelerated--haha i wouldn't be surprised), so IT'S OK. lol. hope that answers ur question... well, my transcript shows that i took alg2 during ms....but i don't get the numerical credit...it's messed up and i've tried to argue it.....w/e it doesn't matter, as i found out.

My stats in a nutshell:

Cmon, everyone else post your stats too :)
also, anyone that was accepted to one of these programs, mind posting your stats also?

yeaaaa, i'm applying to a bunch of progs, including the ones you guys mentioned: brown, case, nw, psu, etc...

general question: the numbers get you the interview, and then it's all a matter of how well you perform during the interview, right?

haha, my varsity tennis team was also runner-ups. We lost to Gulliver in the finals of the Florida Division 3A Championships. But this year I am captain, so were gonna have to win haha. My stats are 1510 and 4.4 GPA (AP Classes count as an extra and i have taken 16 AP Class). Then i have a lot of clubs and experience with medicine in hospital just like all of you. Only lucky thing i have is dad on the med. school board of northwestern, so i hope that could pull me in. Good Luck to all in the application process!

you guys know what's funny/scary: there have been 283 people who have viewed our posts, yet only 4 of us have posted our stats.........haha the competition is pretty stiff out there

yeah...the number of lurkers on this site is kinda freaking me out...
very sketchy

the people who read a message board chat and are too paranoid to post their stats because they might have something that we might want to get and that might give us an advantage are not the the people the programs want, and it will show in their interviews. don't worry about them, you will all do fine!

"the people who read a message board chat and are too paranoid to post their stats because they might have something that we might want to get and that might give us an advantage are not the the people the programs want, and it will show in their interviews."

Excuse ME?

Maybe the people who don't post their stats realize that what medical schools want is not just a perfect student with a tempest of perfect scores. Maybe they understand that what really matters is being dedicated to a medical career, empathetic towards others, and altruistic in their everyday life.

I find it very unfair that you assume that viewers who choose not to post their stats are in someway inferior to you, and it especially bothers me that you were inconsiderate enough to suggest that even their interview will be worse because of it.

If there is anything that I have learned from being in a accelerated med program so far, it is that what matters is not how many people you intimidate or leave behind. The MOST important thing is how many people you help to succeed.

THAT quality is what will show up in an interview. Even straight 800s and 4.0s can not make up for an unprofessional attitude.

Just a note from your moderator here: Civil disagreement is fine; anything personal gets zapped.

haha wow.....ok i apologize if i offended anyone, but what i was saying (and what i feel buckwalk meant as well) is exactly what melodious is saying: that we all should help each other.....we post our stats so we can get help from people better than us, AND so we can give something to work with to those who are learning about the ba/md process....that's all guys. haha. and btw, any fool knows that to get into a program, it's not a bad idea to study hard and get good gpa and test scores....what I would like to know is what other people have done in terms of their extra curriculars, their research experiences, their medical experiences, etc..... what i feel cultures an unhealthy environment for a FORUM is when people just seem to grab what they can from our posts without offering insights of their own, which may or may not include their stats (which, again, are not entirely about numbers). haha everyone play nice, we all should help each other get into programs, as melodious said.

why can't we all be friends? :)

well put papucuta

group hug
:P

haha........sooooooo..........about those ec's, research experiences, medical activities.........lol.....give it some time fellas
