Hey everyone!
I had a tough decision to make (between U of I & UMich) and after visiting both schools I decided to be an illini instead of wolverine hehe

Well anyway, all int’ls who are NOT going to be in the states for summer:

When do you plan to fly in?

Are you gonna come to summer registration, or are you gonna try to find some other way to register?

Anything else that my dumb self should be aware of as an int’l?

hey hanavist, count me in! I'm from China! i think the summer registration is mandatary by school...so we have to pick a date anyway. I think their August programs are prepared for us!But i'm not sure about the date to fly in...i want to be a few days earlier, but the halls won't open for intls until Aug 15, and i'm wondering where to live before moving-in...anyone?

mcdz, yea i'm in Beijing! i just go to a normal high school here, not those international ones. what about you??
hanavist, i think u of i have just added those august programs recently, check it out on the istart. you can't miss it~btw i was having trouble choosing the lunch, cuz i absolultely have no idea of what those kinds of food look like!lol~

Whoa, cool. How'd you learn to speak English so fluently? Your Chinese must be awesome too huh? I go to ISB (International School of Beijing--Shunyi)..

And.. I never knew that local Chinese high school students could apply for American Universities!! Please, enlighten me.

And as for the meal plans.. I didn't know anything either, so I just randomly chose one of the "classic" plans....

Pirate31, I don't seem to find what you're talking about on istart :( Do I just log on to Istart page and click "select/change my summer registration date"?
thanks!!!!!

*Hanavist: Oh, so there IS a separate program for int'ls? *

There is not special program for internationals (Atleast I have not heard of one till date). It's just according to the I-20 internationals are not allowed in the US 30 days prior to when the univ. begins using the Student Visa. (I know this coz I too am an international and have spent about an hour reading through the webpage in order to procure a visa)
We may enter the US using a visitor visa but we have to change it to a student visa before we study in the univ.

Due to the above mentioned reason, the time period of July and August is the time when most of the internationals attend the registration as under normal circumstances we(internationals) are not going to travel to the US just for the sake of attending the registration.

I hope that I have answered ur question. And others please point out if I am wrong.

Thanks sudu!!!
Are you planning on attending the mid-july registration session then? I'm afraid that the classes I want will be all filled by then :(

on https://www-s.istart.uiuc.edu/sumreg/freshman.aspx it says: If you reside outside of Illinois or even outside of the United States and, due to excessive travel distance, are unable to attend a registration program in the summer, you may attend a Summer Registration Program in late August. Students find this August program to be convenient as it allows them to make only one trip to campus prior to the beginning of the fall semester. Please revisit this website periodically for more information regarding August program dates and registering for an August program.

i said August programs r 4 int'ls cuz most American freshmen will choose June or July programs.
oh hanavist, where r u from??

I am not sure on which registration I will be attending as I have not yet selected it. It all depends on when I get my visa. But I shall get it done soon.

Are we supposed to fill up our class schedule now itself??
