Caltech Basketball

I know many of you would probably not be interested in this. As a parent, I find this fascinating. There is another very interesting side to attending Caltech (if you get in). Note: I don't have any family member attending right now, but I do know some close family who did in the past.

Hi Achat,
I actually saw Caltech win in 2006, and the Pres of school and his wife were there too. Several players had not played on HS teams, but they were enthusiastic. It was also fun to watch the girls’ BB team.

Not sure if it’s still up, but I remember reading an article in the gym one day about the baseball team. After a game, the other team’s coach asked how Caltech’s coach could stand to be with a team that never won. Caltech’s coach replied along the lines of how even though his kids don’t win, they give everything they can every game and he knows they’re all playing for the love of the sport.

What struck me about the article was that these kids have outside passions that they love doing, on top of world-class academics. I am very impressed by Caltech. It is about some kids who will eventually win Nobel prizes or be captains of the high tech industry (or even other industries) but they have a balanced life while at Caltech while building these careers.
