Caltech Class 2027 Official Thread

So how many they actually admitted in RD? about ~200 out of 11K?

They removed the SAT score for admission consideration this year, it implies the weight for academic achievement is lower, other non-academic factors weight more now.

I assume based on the limited info we have that RD acceptance dipped below 2%.

This is happening all over. In every school. Im so sorry. I bet you have some prestigious options regardless.

My estimate is that 250-275 are admitted in RD.

250-275 seems high. Curious how you get to that number. I’m assuming there were roughly 100 spots in the class they were seeking to fill in RD (35 QB and maybe 100 already enrolled from REA) which means maybe 180 accepted today.

class size is 230 - 118 (REA) - 35 (QB) = 77 / 50% (yield rate in RD) = ~ about 160 accepted in RD.

Just curious how many they put on waitlist in RD?

@noodles3 I have a early notification acceptance from Berkeley so still have a very good option but Caltech was the dream.

You didn’t apply for MIT? I thought Caltech usually rejects MIT potentials.

Is that a thing? How would they determine this

I have never heard of that from any high-level olympiad or research kids. I applied to MIT RD. Caltech opted for an interesting strategy with REA this year, with most applicants who were admitted early likely having Caltech as #1 choice and people who got in MIT EA would likely not apply Caltech RD or would withdraw if submitted. There are probably very few who applied Caltech and MIT RD with my type of profile. Perhaps Caltech attempted to slightly increase their yield rate via this strategy.

By looking at the profiles, it’s not that hard to judge.

It’s possible that Caltech thought you were deferred or rejected by MIT EA.
