@“aunt bea” I’ve got another place to land, though I really couldn’t care less about the place. In fact, I find it demeaning to me. It’s not a bad school, just way below what I intend to get out of my college experience. I intend to get the hell out of it in at least one 1 year but no more than 2. I can’t finish college with the notion that I feel undereducated if I don’t get out of it that quickly. It’s not a bad school, but I think it’ll be a waste of my education time. If I got to practically start over and end up doing undergrad for 6 years, so be it. I know transfer rates are even worse, but I can’t give up and let myself feel like I didn’t go to my full potential.
Perhaps someone could call admissions and ask if they are only going to look at the waitlist in the summer, and for now, will not take anyone off?
Can you call them?
@IAmTheGreatest: It’s definitely the wrong school for you if you feel that you will be undereducated anywhere else. That is probably is what showed in your essays. They definitely do a thorough and great job of reading the essays.
If they take transfers, it is less than five. Last year, I think Caltech took 1 transfer. The limited transfers that they do take, make something out of their school experience that they come from. The last transfer, that I remember, came from a CSU and is currently in my son’s class. Most of the students, whom I’ve met from Caltech, are just happy to be at a school, and don’t seem to care and boast about their accomplishments, but they do have a LOT to boast about.
@Grundeis: yes, you can call them, but they won’t have a lot to tell you.
- It’s well after May 1. So where did you choose to matriculate?
- If you want someone to call a college Andy ask...pick up the phone and do it yourself. That way you can ask your questions...about you.
- These schools have plenty of applicants and their yield was high. It seems that waitlist action will be minimal to none.
@auntbea - Are you saying they are looking for a class of only 235 and not 245 (about 1/4 of the 980 they enroll as undergrads)? Are you predicting zero waitlist offers? Or at least a handful? Regardless, on what are you basing your information?
@“aunt bea” Obviously I’m going to make the best out of where I am. After all, it’s completely imperative that I do if I really want to get out of there. The fact that I view where I am going to as a prison I’ve got to get out of gives me a very strong incentive to excel perfectly. I’ve got other schools in mind I’m planning to transfer to besides Caltech because I know how insanely low the transfer rates are. Some of which have significantly higher, though not high transfer rates. Also, no, I don’t recall any sentiment like that in any of my essays. I can think of a couple of things that would get me waitlisted that I won’t list here. My essays were perfectly fine. I am still thoroughly confident I will definitely get far below what I will accept from where I am currently being sent to go. Thus, a transfer out of my prison, hopefully not into another one, is mandatory.
Our Caltech newsletter.
Has anyone heard anything yet?
I go to Caltech.
@AstronomerOne did you get off the waitlist?
I recently e-mailed Caltech asking them what’s going on with the waitlist. Here’s what they said:
“We are still evaluating our needs for our class. We will keep you updated about your final decision as we continue through our waitlist process.”
What do u guys think it means? Im not sure if they have taken anyone off yet…
@AceKazama It means absolutely nothing. No one has posted any movement off the waitlist, so I’d just assume they probably won’t end up taking off anyone unless someone bails at the last minute.
just released from the waitlist…was anyone taken in off of the waitlist this year?
@grundeis I am still on it… gosh this is painful.
Correction to my last response: I got released from it, the same outcome as grundeis.
