Is this a slow painful death? Is Caltech politely rejecting me?

What should I do now? Anyone here got in off of the wait-list?

WHAT DOES IT EVEN MEAN?!

Is this a slow painful death? Is Caltech politely rejecting me?

What should I do now? Anyone here got in off of the wait-list?

WHAT DOES IT EVEN MEAN?!

how did you find out you got wait-listed? Did you get an email?

Same here… I really hope not…
Can we take a spot on the waitlist AND commit to another college by May 1st??

lol… yeah thats what u have to do…

uhm. I GOT REJECTED GUYS!

Find a way to unify relativity & qm in the next two months and Caltech will take you off their waiting list.

Meh I really have no idea, waitlisted here too -.- and plok the decision letter linked to in the email you received says what your admissions status is.

I don’t know about this year; but last year if you are waitlisted basically means reject, since they have suprising many admitted students replying to enroll. I heard this year things will be better which means they will release less admissions so if you are high in the pool you still get a chance to get in. Don’t worry. Life goes on.

where/how did you hear that “things will be better”

^^WHAT??

do you think I should ask a certain someone for a recommendation?

Keep hope alive. QA, we are in the same boat.

Yup, I got wait-listed. Kind of lame, but I can deal with it considering it’s not up there for my list of schools. However, what does make me feel worried is that if Caltech basically rejected me, this is a bad sign to what the Ivy Leagues will say.

187–not always true–sometimes Caltech sees applicants that are extremely strong and well-rounded and whatever, but that just don’t demonstrate through their essays the level of math/science passion we’re looking for. Those people could be more likely to get admitted to an Ivy/liberal arts school

If I were u, getting waitlisted is a temporary reject. Focus on your other schools you applied to.

If luck comes your way then u will get caltech :), but don’t put too high hopes jsut because the reality is that it is SO competitive.

got waitlisted… thank God for that likely letter from Dartmouth or i would be freakin stressing out right now

Waitlisted too
now time to wait for all the other schools

I think wait-listed ones still have a good chance. If I am right, Caltech’s yield is only 35% last year.
[Caltech Undergraduate Admissions: 2009 Incoming Class Profile](http://www.admissions.caltech.edu/applying/profile)
the webpage is about 2009 admissions.

So you guys, never ever lose hope!

Yes, but Caltech admits RD based on their predicted yield. If that stays constant, few or no people will come off the waitlist.

I’m interested in this info…

dawncoming ~ Our yield was actually higher than expected last year. We ended up with a few more students than we normally have in a Freshman class.

I would hazard a guess that Caltech’s yield is somewhat low because our caliber of applicants will likely have very many good choices. Caltech is also a very unique environment, and it’s understandable that a lot of people would decide it’s not for them, even if they’re very smart.

For those waitlisted, there’s no way of telling how many people Caltech will take off the waitlist this year. The important thing to get across if you want to get off the waitlist is that you really really want to come here and will attend Caltech if you are accepted.

I was waitlisted way back in the day, so there is hope–but IMSAgeek is right, no way to know until you know…

I said it’s a bad sign. I didn’t say that I’m definitely going to be rejected from every school now.
