i'm a transfer student from pomona. my top choices at the moment are caltech +$$$ and willamette (OR). i will be visiting both next week. i'll also be visiting rice, should time permit, but i'm sure it won't be nearly as nice as the other two. i'm taking my mom, as well, and we're both excited to be visiting for the first time!

Thanks for sharing!

OMG CALTECH CALTECH CALTECH!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, you should choose whichever you like best.

what is willamette?

pick the one you like... caltech is really excellent, the others not so much, as far as i know, but fit is important too.

RIP, Richard Smalley, Rice is nought without thee. ;)

The decision will be easier after you visit.

Rice is a really good school as well. I decided between there and Caltech when I was a prefrosh, and I wasn't the only one to do so. I've never heard of Willamette. Ben is right that Caltech is better in the sciences than Rice. The people choosing between here and Rice usually like Rice because it has stronger humanities departments, a larger campus, and is less brutal academically. Both Caltech and Rice have gorgeous campuses, but Pasadena is also gorgeous and Houston is hideous (consistently among the most polluted cities in the US).

Why do you want to go to transfer from Pomona to Willamette? That wouldn't make much sense to me at all.

i was told by many students at willamette that they too have turned down such schools as stanford, caltech and etc. to go to willamette. they said the campus is much nicer and friendlier while academic is on par with hypsm. i hope i'm making the right decision~

I find your claims hard to believe collegeprep... campus much nicer? an unknown college with academic on par with the top schools? and what percentage exactly of students turned down top schools to go there?

While the US News reports have many shortcomings, they do give a very vague sense of a college's level of quality. And Willamette ranked 61st out of the liberal arts colleges. This is a seperate from university rankings as well.

wait when you say caltech +$$$ are you saying you're considering turning down caltech with financial aid or a scholarship for willamette without anything?

collegeprep11 is a troll who got kicked off the Willamette board for being vile and offensive. Don't believe him, or waste your time with him.

thanks for the heads up, traveled

yes. thanks.

is it troll mating season? they seem to be out in full force lately.

silver-yms: willamette maybe an unknown college to you but where i am from it is well regarded and thought to be just as good as hypsm.

me being vile? don't be ridiculous.

I am not sure if I am vile or not. I've never tasted myself.
