<p>dianal: I'm not sure. You are definitely right that Caltech is smaller than Rice, but I was always told that "rice is the smallest research university." Perhaps Caltech isn't considered a "research university" because it doesn't do any research in the humanities? It's a stretch, I know, but if someone wants to go to Caltech (a very small group of people) then we probably aren't going to make them want to go to Rice more with this list, so i think it'll be okay to leave it this way.</p>
